Kean: Did you ever hear or see from any intel agency any memos or discussions that talked about using planes as bombs?
Condi: At one point I said this was a historical memo not based on new threat information because no one could have imagined them using planes as missiles. I probably should have said "I could not imagine" because the intel community did look at this and consider it but it was NEVER briefed to us.

Rice: Historical memo...not based on new information...reports from 98 and 99 about planes being used. Planes as weapons was never briefed to us.

"no one could have imagined them taking a plane ... using planes as a missile.
I probably should have said, "I couldn't have imagined".
To the best of my knowledge, the idea of the use of airplanes as weapons was never briefed to us.
Using planes as a weapon was not in the August 6 memo."
To: Mo1
Planes as missles were being talked about by others but we were not briefed. The intel agencies sort thru thousands of kinds of trheats. The intel agencies must have thought this was speculation and it was not given to us as a report or in memo.

Yup she wants them to hear in no uncertain terms what she is saying so there is no doubt in anyone's mind.

"It looks like Bush/Rice considered Clarke part of the problem. It looks like Clarke was out of the loop. By design and by his own choice of not attending meetings. "
True. The administration has said that in a dozen subtle ways but the main stream media has ignored it.

Kean asks a question that he says the families submitted.
Did she ever hear from the FBI, CIA or any agency that planes could be used as missiles.
She says she knows there's been much discussion about a comment she made in a press conference about "no one could imagine". She amends (Chrissy Matthews thinks this is a huge flip flop, btw) to say she should have said "I" instead of "no one".
No, that intelligence was NOT briefed to them. She points to Sandy Berger's answer to this same question, that much chatter comes in like car bombs and so on and they need to sift through what is firm and what is speculative.
She does not recall a strategic warning. Reports in nineties refer to the planes as missiles but she never saw them.
Kean asks about the charge that the administration was too focused on Iraq and not enough on Al Qaeda (this is good that he asks so she can answer)
