In fact, the Magi, or "wise men" who traveled from the east to deliver their gold, frankincense and myrrh to the newborn Jesus at Bethlehem were most likely Zoroastrian priests, forbears of the modern Kurds.
In fact, Scripture does not state they came from the east, it implies their origins (homeland) is in the east.

Matthew 2 1 And Jesus having been born in Beth-Lehem of Judea, in the days of Herod the king, lo, mages from the east came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, `Where is he who was born king of the Jews? for we saw his star in the east, and we came to bow to him.'
The above is Young's Literal Translation. His choice was to place the word order "mages from the east." I've not looked at it, but there's probably some support for saying "from the east mages came." That would support your position.
I suspect it might be a matter of fair choice.
