At any rate, we best get use to the usage again as it looks like it is about to come back into fashion. I only hope that the GOP is proactive in explaining the case. If they had the b@lls they would bring up just what the media did after Tet. They will not, though...too bad.
Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, warned yesterday that the United States is now "dangerously close" to losing control on the ground in Iraq.
"We're talking not only about the insurgency, partly by outsiders, but also about a religious dynamic that is very difficult to deal with," Hagel said in an interview. "You have the most combustible elements at play here. If it all blows at the same time, Abizaid knows that we probably will not get control of it again."
Sen. Joseph R. Biden (D-Del.), the ranking Democrat on the Foreign Relations Committee, said the situation in Iraq could begin to resemble the war in Vietnam if the United States does not move quickly to deploy a "fairly large" number of American forces.
"This is a prescription for disaster," Biden said. "We can't handle a two-front war" against both insurgents in the Sunni triangle and disaffected young men loyal to Sadr. "It could end up as another Vietnam if we don't get ahold of this situation now."
