It was really the democrats that cut off funding for the South Vietnamese that caused that failure over there. Nixon had little to do with it. If we had kept funding up it might have never happened

Distracted by Watergate, Nixon was not able to strongly support the South Vietnamese leadership (who weren't very popular in the US, truth to tell), and, once he was replaced by Ford, the Democrats in the House and Senate (which they controlled at the time as you no doubt recall) cut off the money to fund the South Vietnamese.
