Nope, just porn and prostitution

Why the picking and choosing?

Why the picking and choosing?

Bring back Sabbath stonings!

Wait, I was working on a web site on Sunday, and Saturday too (in case the Jews get into power and get to write the blue laws). Nevermind.

It's about time something is done about porn. And those involved in child porn should get the maximum sentences. Women have been forced into it (probably some men to), and it has robbed many children of their childhood. Anyone supporting child porn is demented.

And so is religion. See, I can make blanket, unsupported statements just as well as you can.

I agree on the child porn. Tattoo "child molester" on their foreheads and send them off to what will be in actuality a very short prison term.

However, if any women are being forced (which is probably rare these days) of course they should call the police and have the producer arrested. If porn is illegal then victims will be much less likely to report any actual abuse.

Same with prostitution in Europe. It's legal and regulated but there still exists the problem of imported Eastern women who are kept in virtual slavery. Of course this problem exists whether prostitution is legal or not, since it's a way for pimps to get cheap labor (pimping is usually illegal anyway). But since prostitution is legal, the police ignore the vast majority legal prostitution and concentrate their resources on those cases where women are actually being abused.

I don't see that. As I've said, religion has been responsible for divisiveness in society, repression, persection and as an excuse and even motivation for murder. It has resulted in countless wars and used to justify slavery. Religion is bad for society. I've already given more evidence for this point than you have given for porn.

I don't mean to actually go off on a "religion is bad" tangent, just showing you how your statement is completely unsupported by argument and will not be believed unless you show evidence -- preferably unbiased research or clear logical argument.

All porn should be illegal.

Define "porn."

Should Penthouse be illegal?

Playboy?

The Victoria's Secret catalog?

South Park?

All porn should be illegal.

And since you're probably basing that on your religious laws, so should adultery, Sabbath breaking, wearing nice clothes and being the wrong denomination.

Nope, just porn and prostitution

Because porn and prostitutio are obviously very bad.

Sabbath breaking violates one of the Ten Commandments. Doesn't get much more bad than that.

We still haven't established that porn or prostitution are any more bad than, say, jay-walking.

Everyone is religious whether they have a diety or not. All people are religious therefore all problems can be tied to religion if you want. But yes, this is a tangent. Porn and prostitution is simply bad. You don't want your daughter ho'ing and you don't want your son screwing ho's. So why is it ok for people you care less about?

I think we've had this discussion before- you define religion broadly to basically mean a viewpoint on the world.

Porn and prostitution is simply bad. You don't want your daughter ho'ing and you don't want your son screwing ho's. So why is it ok for people you care less about?

Because, in my view, other consenting adults are free to chose what behavior they consider to be bad for them. I would never go sky-diving, but that doesn't mean I want to ban others from jumping out of planes if they so choose.

Wrong, unless you only mean it in the vernacular sense to be very conscientious about something. But that definition doesn't have anything to do with this topic unless we're talking about a porn producer who is religious about getting every shot just right.

You don't want your daughter ho'ing and you don't want your son screwing ho's. So why is it ok for people you care less about?

Notice I've never actually said it's good either? No, it wouldn't be a preferable career choice for my daughters, but then I'd also be disappointed if they became raving looney evangelists preaching hatred of others instead. In any case, it's not something the government should be prosecuting.

You brought this up for a reason. You used those words deliberately. Based on that, can you cite for me one example where the government passed a law solely because the activity was "sinful".

And if they never have (and likely never will), why did you even bring this up? Seems a little "Chicken Little-ish", yes?

I brought it up because biblewonk said government should deal with sin.

And just one example would be "blue laws" requiring businesses to be closed on Sunday, to prevent a violation of the Ten Commandments.

That's a dodge. If you have kids you don't want them whoring or getting facials in front of cameras. Why is it ok for people you care less about. You call it a kindness to them to say you wouldn't want to dictate how they should live but we know better when we consider your feelings toward your kids. Condoning whoring for your own kids is a very different thing than simply turning your back on everyone else out there and calling it their liberty.

And don't forget, instead of it being a family matter the government could arrest kids for not "honoring" their parents. Also, for things that I don't consider the government's business:
