I have no idea. If it was me, I'd have sprung for a clean cloth.....(grin)

Maybe it is a hoax, I don't know, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to see it. I would have to reconcile wanting to see the shroud & my dislike of crowds. I don't think I could have a private showing.

I don't know if there is a specific verse with Mary's ancestry. It's been many years since catechism class. Someone else can here can probably find it but here's a quick google -

Like you I'd be interested in actually seeing it for myself. And like you, I'm no big fan of crowds.

I have no idea. If it was me, I'd have sprung for a clean cloth.....(grin) When they prepared the body, would they have cleaned the body at one of these two events, (either Nicodemus or the women)? And yes, I too, would think that they would have used a clean cloth after having prepared the body.

Actually, they would not use a clean cloth. Blood spilled in death was considered as sacred as the body. The cloth with bloodstains would have been the most proper cloth to use. We cannot presume modern thinking about what seems clean or respectable to late-second-Temple burial customs in Jerusalem.

China says the tooth is one of only two in existence, with the other in Sri Lanka. There is a Temple of the Tooth in Kandy, Si Lanka. It was bombed by the Tamil Tigers in 1998, but apparently they didn't get the tooth.

Nothing is much more powerful than today's PC critics of anything Western - including Christianity. They'd JUMP at the chance to "tear it down" (whatever they think that means).Except it'd create a domino effect. Most religions are based on the one god theory. Imagine if one of those gods fell. It wouldn't be long before the others began toppling and then all the infighting in the ME would be all for not.

When it was on display in 2001, 2 million people went to see it. It doesn't say how long it was on display but that is more than a line around the block. lol

Actually, those passages confirm for me the shroud covered Christ. As I pointed out, see above the reference to the head cloth (napkin in my Bible) in Spain with the same rare blood type found on the shroud. Not only does the blood on the head cloth in Spain match the blood type found on the Shroud, but the blood stain pattern also matches the pattern found on the Shroud.
I never knew anything about this other piece of cloth in Spain until a couple of weeks ago, when two men made a presentation after Mass about the Passion and the connection with the Shroud.
It was also discovered that a bacteria that creates a coating, or sheen, was growing on the outside of the Shroud which is believed may have interfered with the accuracy of the carbon dating.
There were also mold spores found on the Shroud that are only native to Jerusalem. Also, I recall something about a certain type of flower appearing on the Shroud and buried with the body as custom is found only in Jerusalem. It was very interesting.

That is actually one of the best arguments against it being a hoax. A medieval faker of false relics would have created as you suggest, using the Bible as a reference.

In central France we visited a church that had a relic in the basement that you could view. It was supposed to be Mary Magedelens toe. Of course it could have been anything or anyones toe. I was not moved by the sight of it.

"2. He is capable of typing the Declaration of Independence, but simply hasn't done it yet.

Point 2 does not need to be tested, it is a mathematical certainty. There is a specific finite number of possible things that can be typed of a certain size, therefore given infinite time, one of them would be the Declaration.
( actually, there would be an infinite number of copies of it, along with everything else )

I was wondering. Would they use the same dirty cloth that he was originally wrapped in after preparing the body? It looks like Nicodemus does his thing that evening, but that the women do theirs after the sabbath. Wouldn't a clean cloth have been used after the body had been prepared? Um, I think you need to study your scripture a little closer. The women never got to anoint the body, because when they got there His body was not there.
The belief is that the cloth is the one Jesus was wrapped in when He was resurrected.
