"Most of the Cuban-Americans here currently are white by anyone's standard other than say TLI's."
Yes, because most of the Cubans that left the country right after Castro took it over were the more well off and well educated Cubans and they were the white Cubans.
In Cuba itself, most are mulatto or black.

There are plenty of naturalized Japanese citizens with non-Japanese ancestry. I hope you're not suggesting it's a "mixing pot".
To: RightWhale
Yeah right.
Here is another white English speaking (of a sort) American: Bill Clinton

I don't see anything racist in Buchanan's piece. I usually disagree with Pat's economic policies, yet I completely understand his view on immigration. I am an immigrant myself, and I am deeply offended by illegals and people unwilling to embrace real American culture, values and language (English).

The point is that you don't know a mestizo when you see one.
To: wardaddy
I would rather share my nation with a hispanic free market conservative than a leftie liberal white.

His demogoguery falls apart under close examnination because most Latinos are white. That's nonsense. Most Mexicans, Central Americans and Puertoricans are of Indian or mixed heritage (Mestizos). A considerable amount though of Cubans, Colombians and Argentinians are of pure European ancestry.

How about, I am American?Great!
Unless you're contemplating forming a dark skin(ed), nearly black eye(ed), and red hair(ed) special interest group (oh yeah, with newly discovered "rights")..

Pure? I doubt it.

Which begs the question: who WAS Clinton's father?

FYI, I grew up in Latin American, although I am not Latin American. From Paraguay in the South to Mexico in the North, most Latinamerican countries are mostly inhabited by Indios and Mestizos. Colombia, Venezuela and Costa Rica have a strong Spanish (and other European) presence. Now the situation looks way different in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay where there are virtually no Indios left and most of the population are of European ancestry or are light-skinned Mestizos.

There was a lot of German immigration into some of the South American countries. My grandmother's next door neighbor for a lot of years was an ex-nazi who married a dougla woman. When I meet some folks from the Central American countries they are VERY insistant upon their 'purity' and others seem to have a more 'who cares' attitude.

According to thisAny analysis that puts Argentina and Haiti in the same economic category has to be bogus.

"I hope you're not suggesting it's a "mixing pot"."
Of course it's not. Japan has very strict criteria for naturalization. For example, I believe you have to "Japanize" your name and show that you have fully embraced the Japanese way of life.

You beat me to it.
