It makes sense that the wailing wall isn't really part of the Temple after all. The Romans were pretty thorough about such things, and besides, the Lord told the disciples, "Not one stone shall be left on top of another" -- ie, no surviving Temple wall.

The Wailing Wall has never been claimed to be actually part of the temple proper, but rather the remaining part of a retaining wall that was built when the complex was expanded. It's pretty clear from the writings of Josepheus that the temple itself was razed to the ground by the Romans in about 70AD. I can't recall the name of the Roman governor who did the expansion off the top of my head.

That being said, from what I've read of this piece so far seems to smack of malicious revisionism. Having read Josepheus it seemed pretty clear to me that the Temple Mount was just that. Keep in mind there's a very strong element of moslems and other anti-semites who wish to claim that there was never a Jewish temple on The Mount. I'm suspicious of this article's intentions, but will read more.
