The discovery of oil prevented the demise of whales who were being destroyed for whale oil

You are missing the principle of the matter, the extreme enviro elites just want to flex their ideological muscle over the rest of the U.S.

Yes, but whale oil contains the best ingredient for automatic transmissions.

Maybe we could do both, drill for oil & catch whales?

I know that is what my statement looks like. But,the comment was just the beginning of my rant againts enviroNUTS.

Another point is, the enviroNUTS did not want to chop down trees, hence "paper or plastic?" became a common question at stores. Save the trees yelled enviroNUTS!

Well, Now we've got plastic bags - a PETROLEUM BY-PRODUCT, which do not decompose for thousands of years, littered everywhere. This still did not save their precious trees.
Since no cler cutting was allowed, many forests have all burned down anyway. (not to fear, they'll grow back, and be better for it, a particular trees seed will not grow withiout fire, I cant remember which one though)

Anyway, I was just, uh, "trolling" for a response from some liberal nut - that's all.
