I feel like I am eavesdropping on people I don't know. How DO Rush and Sean make us feel like we are participating, even when we are not?

I don't have a complete answer, but I believe they are using a bit of a technique described to me years ago by a DJ on a local Idaho station. His approach was to visualize a single listener somewhere in the audience, and then talk to that one individual. To him, his broadcasting was a conversation with one individual instead of a speech to all. In this way each listener would feel part of the process, even if they had a passive role.

You're so right. This show doesn't connect, it doesn't feel immediate and compelling. This is like sitting in a booth in a restaurant next to self absorbed antique lefty douche bags.
