This 3-D cylindrical-perspective mosaic taken by the navigation camera on the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit on sol 82 shows the view south of the large crater dubbed "Bonneville." The rover will travel toward the Columbia Hills, seen here at the upper left. The rock dubbed "Mazatzal" and the hole the rover drilled in to it can be seen at the lower left. The rover's position is referred to as "Site 22, Position 32." This image was geometrically corrected to make the horizon appear flat. small

Here is a three frame pan that I put together this evening from Spirit's sol-084 on a clearer day, again southeast and south. I believe that Gusev Crater's rim is visible faintly in the distance . . . clearer air . . . less dust (I think).

Larger image

This 3-D is of a rock outside Opportunity's "nest". Notice what appear to be a high concentration of "berrys".
NASA/JPL is cutting back on staff . . . forgive my sketchy detail. Perhaps some of you guys & gals can help fill in?

"Berries" are spherical objects of ambiguous origin with high concentrations of hematite. They may OR MAY NOT be assisted in formation by primitive iron-loving organisms. They are part of the proof that this area once was "awash in water". Here is a 3-D enlargement of a berry showing an indication of hexagonal structure. Hematite's crystalline structure is hexagonal.
