I was waiting for this to go up. We're about t-minus one hour from it (depending on how long Duke-Xavier goes, I guess). Too bad it's not going to be a long interview like Clarke had. I've noticed that 60 Minutes are not promoting this either. The commercial I just saw advertised the story on soccer phenom Freddy Adu, not the story on Rice or Pickering. I also discovered from the link referenced above that Rice spoke to them this morning and not yesterday as I'd heard would be the case before. Bill Kristol predicted this morning that Rice might say that if this is really such a big deal that she'll testify in public under oath as she's been badgered to do. I don't think Bill has a good track record on predicting news, so take that with a grain of salt. By the way, go Xavier-- I had Duke losing before now in my office pool bracket, but my opponents have them winning it all.

It was great to see Pickering get a fair shot by the liberal media, wasn't it? 'Bout damn time too. :o)

But, was this the first time anyone has watched 60 Minutes? How long does it take to understand what that show is all about?Of course, but then again, the power of such news programs is most apparent in how they leverage into other media.
Here's the AP report: Rice Rejecting Calls for Public Testimony
Looks as if AP saw it foremost as a good opportunity to summarize all the the latest Clarke allegations.
Here's Reuters: Rice Rejects Public Testimony to 9/11 Panel
Most of the nation's newspapers will print one or the other tomorrow, so now we know what the opening tone for the week is - Condi's "refusal to testify"...

It might have been a fantastic interview. She might have handled the tough questions beautifully. What they let us see was another story.
To: A Citizen Reporter
Oh my GOD! Who does she think she is fooling. This is SICK.
To: CasearianDaoist; Pukin Dog
I'm willing to bet tht 95% of the television sets tuned to the basketball game switched over to "The Simpsons" or ESPN before the interview came on, leaving an audience of us, Dan Rather, and Richard Clarke.

1) Because the interview was conducted months before he had a publisher, and That was a lame excuse

That was the impression I got just from the teaser, I tuned him out when he came on. :)
Did you just hear what LS said about why they didn't disclose the financial ties? She said that when they booked Clarke, he didn't have a publisher yet??? Then why was he, of all the witnesses, booked?

It would have been nicer if the program had given Judge Pickering this interview about 1-2 years ago.

That's possible

She learned a available lesson today. The lib media will not give her or the President a fair shake.

...when it was described by him as a "best-seller".I think he described it that way because it's #1 right now. It's probably worth not losing touch with that..

There is one thing Clinton did that is much smarter than Bush and that's clean house as soon as possible. The should of had Clarke document everything he knew, sign it, and then dismiss him. Bush is too busy playing Mr. Nice Guy to scoundrels who have no problem lying and stabbing him in the back. Bush may be smarter than he is portayed in the press but he lacks wisdom.

"Do you remember the James Byrd commercial right before the election? The most vile political commercial in the history of presidential elections?
WHO WON?
End of story."
I remember 2000 + election and I have always considered it a "miracle" that these lying crooked liberals did not steal that election.

I have read Bernard Goldberg's book. Point of fact, I've actually bought extra copies of it to pass on to some of those independents that you are so concerned about. They are getting educated, and that is what is making the difference with the public's reaction to the media. One friend, who I gave the book to, said he would never watch a news program on TV the same way again.
To: A Citizen Reporter
good for you. i have the audio book for it, its great, Goldberg's narration is outstanding.
To: oceanview
Yes but I do not see how to respond to the sort of mentality that is taken in by this if one does not own at least half of the media. There comes a point where one needs to take it out in the open what is going on and take your lumps. The segment that is going to be fooled you will never get, or at least some portion of it.
Again, I have never seen the media so aligned, not even during the Reagan years. Yes, that should have been live and with no editing, but no matter what you do you are going to get this.
I mean up until a few weeks ago all you heard was that Bush overreacted. it was one of Kerry's sound bites, for Pete's sake. In two weeks they have total reversed themselves. If the voter is this supine then we might as well not have any issues at all, lets talk about sports teams and decide that way. The GOP needs to focus the voter on all of these manipulation of reality and the entire lack of logical consistency. If they need to get up there and say that the board of CBS are all a bunvh of Demovrats then do it. This is the perfect moment and yet they do not rise to it. They must get over this.
A few more of these media moments and their goose is cooked.
