An official source at the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed surprise at the attempts by some parties to ignore the real causes of the postponement of the Arab Summit, which was due mainly to the deep divergence of views on issues of substance and crucial choices that are closely connected to the aspirations of Arab citizens and the future of the Arab Nation. Some of these issues pertain to modernization and reform in our Arab countries for the purpose of consolidating democratic progress, protecting human rights, consolidating the status of women and the role of civil society, on the one hand, and the restructuring of the Arab League so as to allow it to better keep abreast of joint Arab action, on the other.
Considering all that, the issue is not related to the venue of the Summit and therefore any attempt to change such venue will only be a way of concealing the true inherent causes of the decision to postpone the Summit , a decision which has received the support of a number of Arab States.
Tunisia recalls its steadfast stand in favor of continued consultation with its Arab brothers for the purpose of bridging differences of views on the issues of substance that are at stake. It also reiterates its attachment to its right to host the Summit which will examine those issues. It calls upon the Arab League Council to meet at the earliest possible date in order to pursue coordination and ensure the best of conditions for the success of the Summit .
The same source highlighted Tunisia's unwavering and clear position on all issues pertaining to joint Arab action, especially regarding the Palestinian cause and the Iraqi issue, and the efforts it devotes to the promotion of the action needed to fulfill the hopes of Arab citizens and their aspirations, and meet current challenges.
Practice of human rights as presented in the UN Declaration of Human Rights is spotty. Before they can be protected, they need to be introduced.
