"Muahahaha - I'll show him...(click click type type type click)...hmmmm. Ah, ha - I'm in!"
(a sudden BANG! as the door is kicked in...)
"Hey, what's going on? Who are you guys? Where are you taking me?"
....
"Whaddaya mean, 'Guantanamo'? But I don't wanna go to Cuba!"
FWIW, Verizon's DNS servers here in NoVA still haven't been corrected, slightly more than twelve hours after I noticed the problem. That is, if I clear out the hosts file entry that's giving me the IP address and flush the DNS cache, I still can't get through to www.freerepublic.com. I was hoping that many, if not most, people would be back to normal by this evening, but it looks like it's going to take slightly longer than I thought for things to settle down - I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few stragglers who still can't get through to freerepublic.com a couple of days from now. In the meantime, people will probably continue trickling back as their ISPs get the DNS update or they discover the direct IP address from somewhere. Such is life, eh? ;)
