netmilsmom All antidepressaants have a higher risk of suicide during inital treatment. This is something that has been known since the 70s. Depressed people often do not commit suicide because they just do not have the phycical energy or mental organization to sustain plan and carry out a suicide. Antidepressants often give energy to patients before the emtional depression is significantly lifte. This energy permits the patient to execute a suicide and these patients need to be watched closely unitl their emtional level lifts$10.00 an hour psych techs in inpatient settings even know this little piece of information. There is nothing new here.

Whether people take anti-depressants or not, one of the most dangerous times of treatment is during the initial lifting of the depression. The person has gotten a blessed moment of relief and suddenly reawakens to the fact that life can be better. Then he has a setback for a moment, or a day, and that brings on a black hopelessness. This is when people attempt suicide.
