If I've said it once, I've said it a billion times: no GA pilot should fly this very hot, very temperamental airplane.

Better yet, no aviator (private, commercial, whathaveyou) should fly cross country without filing a flight plan or using flight following, regardless of what kind of aircraft you're piloting.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's an MU-2?

One sweet airplane however. Too bad for the family.

One does wonder how many such follies that "cancer research" money affords however......

This really is a strange accident. The weather that night was beautiful. The river is narrow and the odds of crashing in it is small, when the approach and area just around the airport is surrounded mostly by land.

It also sounds like he's flown in the area many times.

Even if he had problems he still should have been able to decend over land.

Sounds like he had a lot of experience, but I don't know how much time he had in the MU-2 but it doesn't sound anything to do with the plane being "hot."

Fuel starvation maybe? Only time will tell.

It's a shame, no matter what the cause.

Why not? My understanding was that based on speed and range a MU-2 was about the best possible choice for a private pilot who wanted to step up to a twin turboprop.

Even if it is inherently ugly because of the high wing (ducking!) :-p

The question's serious, though. What's wrong with a MU-2?

Well I don't know about that, but I do know, I'd never fly without filing a flight plan.. if for no other reason than so they know where to look if I go down.

No one should land even high-wing aircraft in 20 feet of river water without floats and on an adequate river.

Accidents happen, especially with GA pilots who train much less than they fly. Besides the MU-2 just looks cooler than it flies, like an Aero-Commander 5xx series on meth.
