Oh, this is so sad. What a great guy harpseal was.

I jotted this for him when his wife, Maryann, passed a couple of years ago...

Half in Day

A little while upon these icy floes
Is all we have upon the sea of time.
Horizons hint our sphere, God only knows,
Encompassed by the Sun's unending clime.

His low-slung Light ascends and warms us here,
Atop the world, we wayward vagabonds.
Our vision jumbles, squinting to revere,
This humble glint of what we'll find beyond.

Though robed in white at birth and once we pass,
As snow and light-- each mortal breath we draw
Is half in night, aspiring to surpass,
These mortal rafts before their final thaw.

The day his iceberg melts to timeless fate,
The harpseal swims again to see his mate.

Godspeed, harpseal. Say hello to Maryann.

Your poem brought tears to my eyes. I remember reading it when you first posted it to Harpseal. Thank you.

I am so sorry for your loss, Lazamataz. May your good friend rest in peace.
Sabertooth, on 02/19/2002 I printed out your tribute to Maryann Riley because it was so touching. www.freerepublic.com/focus/fr/630516/posts
Carlo3b started a very helpful thread on grieving in 09/2003. Laz, may you find some comfort there as well. www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/988103/posts
My condolences to harpseal's family also.
