It's debatable whether the Spanish vote was an indication of their fear/appeasement instincts or was simply a reaction to being lied to by Anzar about Eta's involvement in the terrorist act. He was way too quick to point the finger in their direction, and it reeked of electioneeering. I think there's a good chance the incumbant would still be in office if he were straight with the electorate about Al Qaeda's (probable) role in the attack.

You underestimate the capacity of the socialists (in any country) for duplicity, for making false allegations for electoral gain, and for using emotions like fear to win votes.

JMHO.

My impression is that it was a "Look at what getting involved in the Iraq war did to us!" thing. I saw the footage of the rallies/protests, where people were holding up "Paz" (Peace) signs. They didn't want revenge, just to wave the white flag.

...Anzar...He was way too quick to point the finger in their direction

Italy's PM said today he is also suspicious of ETA. He said (paraphrase) how convenient that the bombers left a backpack, with cell phone and explosive to be found. How convenient that the van was found with the Koran verses inside, and other evidence. He thinks it may very well be al Quaeda, but with inside mega help from ETA.

What does it matter? As Rush says: "A tiger is a tiger!" And a terrorist is a terrorist, whether he comes from ETA or al-Queida!!

You and I both share some doubts about the "explanation" of the Socialist victory.

My own theory is that they won because the old regime failed to prevent the attack. Funny how that happens...

BS!

That is more rationalization, more leftist justification, more crap dumped into the stream of absolute proof that the west is in retreat....and apparently enjoying it.
