Hey, I'd rather not have any rules at all. The way I see it, common courtesy and the Golden Rule should be sufficient. I do offer a few guidelines and a warning about a few things that will not be tolerated. But those were originally intended for liberals. I thought conservatives would naturally know how to behave in polite family setting.

But we're all human. Human nature is selfish at it's core and selfishness can lead to perceptions which cause "politeness" to go out the window. Thus rules are needed to create a boundry for areas where we should not go. When the boundries are violated, there must be consequences.

Common courtesy is not so common anymore. Sadly. What is common courtesy for one is not even closely related to another.

Family might be a close analogy, but even in families there are fights, there are differences of opinion and belief. Words are spoken that shouldn't. Grudges are held. But there should be, and is (I believe), a common bond that does hold us together as family. You, being "the man in charge", get to decide what those bonds are. The rest of us can either agree with those bonds, or move on to something else.

Have often pondered how could one set up a country

where the only law was THE GOLDEN RULE. I suspect Christ will do that or something close.

Anyway--then the challenge would be all the people who whined about PRECEDENT!

. . . closely followed by experts in arguing about precedent--otherwise known as lawyers.

Sigh.

I suspect you knew too much about human nature to 100% expect even conservatives to operate well within the bounds of THE GOLDEN RULE! LOL.
