You're a Buchananite Union kinda guy. Union protectionism is your thing. No, I'm a Buchananite America First! kind of guy.
"Made In USA" is my kind of thing.
I believe that our nation's liberty and independence depend greatly on our capability of being self-reliant utilizing our own vast natural resouces and ingenuity.
"The prohibiting duties we lay on all articles of foreign manufacture which prudence requires us to establish at home, with the patriotic determination of every good citizen to use no foreign article which can be made within ourselves without regard to difference of price, secures us against a relapse into foreign dependency."
--Thomas Jefferson to Jean Baptiste Say, 1815.
As far as unions go, I'm rather neutral.
The best managed businesses operate in a fashion where the employees perceive no benefit in organizing. But there are also mismanaged corporations where employee abuse is best held in check by formal organization of the labor force.

Ah...cut and paste! Reminds of my childhood with dull scissors, construction paper (what exactly did they construct with that stuff?) and Elmer's white glue!
Funny how we still cling to those familiar words.

Because her posts are so full of other accusations that she could not possibly believe to be true, I don't think it is a matter of memory, but whatever she can get away with.
I'm truly sorry. I'll do it now though, and we'll see how it works. You'd have to restore the thread to help me with the rest of it though. <VBG>

Slander and false accusations, when this all started when I said that you and I and uglybiker were on the same side and you went after me on that? Okay, I understand now.
You can post whatever it is you please, but it doesn't have to be factual. You can escalate the insults, couched in sort of soothing words;however, when bluntly called on it,all of a sudden you are the "victim". Well, that isn't quite how it works. You lied. I said you lied. You don't like my "tone". Ergo, I should have used a different word. Which would you prefer......perjury( oh no, that's when someone lies under oath),wanton dissembler, perfidious speaker of untruths? Gee.....find one that "sounds" better to the ear and I'll go with it.:-)
You claimed that you've never been in a flame war,on the other thread. Since you started this one, I no longer believe you.
To: Jim Robinson
I would like to forget about it, if it's all the same to you.
To: Willie Green
"...with the patriotic determination of every good citizen to use no foreign article which can be made within ourselves..."
Well, I think all of that went out the window when the "Made in Tokyo" label hit the shelves. First the junk toys, then the cameras, transister radios, calculaters, electronics, computers, etc, etc, etc. By the way, where are your shirts made? Kinda hard to put it all back to the way it was pre WWII.
To: Fledermaus
When I was new I got on a free trade v protectionist thread,an illegal immigration thread, a Mason thread and..Texas women murdering men threads!...;)

The list of products that COULD be made in American rather than what SHOULD be (or is worth our time) is infinite.
I guess Willie still wants to pay $30K plus benefits to have Americans manufacture toasters, Happy Meal toys, weave $4 packs of underwear, etc.
Oh, but wait, then we won't have those products any longer because under our freedom and free market system, there isn't going to be anyone buying a $30 toaster any longer, or $20 for 3 pairs of briefs, and McDonald's won't give away toys that cost them $3 to buy. Oh, but we can't bother to discuss all those jobs lost anyway because they are overpriced and have outlived their usefullness.
I can see a bumper sticker on Willie's car: "Bring back Slide Rules!"

The protectionist threads are fun, though... just tell the people to flip over the keyboard they are using to type their rants on.... many say "made in China" ;-)

I just urge all FReepers to treat each other with respect, and although we may disagree on the small stuff, at the end of the day...we should be thankful to have this forum to express our thoughts. I know I am. I just got home from work, and started reading through this thread. Wow. Now I realize how naive and silly my little post #41 was, excerpted above.

Couldn't be. Those guys are completely innocent of any wrongdoing. They are victims of The Swarm. In fact, you probably got Todd banned, by making him insult you.
