Now we see who are friends really are, and it's ironic. The Polish people and other east europeans know what it's like to live with a boot on their collective necks. It's not Zapatero and "the Spanish". It's Zapatero and the 42% of Spanish voters who put him into office just like it was Bill Clinton and the 43% percent of American voter that put Bubba into office in 1992.
Now, to answer your question.
Are Zapatero and those voters who believe him that stupid?

Unfortunately history often repeats itself. They believe pacifying their enemies will spare them the horror of war. Initially they may be right, they may be spared for some time to come. But as history has taught us so many times; the end result will only be multiplied in the horror it delivers. They will be forced to fight; but when that time comes the costs will be so much higher.
Are they dumb? No, just ignorant and naive - very similar to the left that wishes to take power in this country. God helps us all if they succeed.

Are they really that dumb? Very forgetful of history, the costs they endured in freeing their land from Islamists, and the renewed claims the Islamists have made on that land (and that's IF one wants to be charitable).
