If one tenth of the attention given to persecution of muslims were given to persecution of jews and christians by Islamic terrorists, the world would be much better informed. Spain's Muslims brace for backlash

It's very interesting how an amble number of facts from history can be taken out of context(not intentionally so) and lead to conclusions and so distort the history or the lesson(s) that should be learned from it. Yes, the Moors ruled Spian for 800 years. The Muslims and Jews were expelled. The Inquisition came about and resulted in the persecution of people. And that quote from the New York regarding Moorish rule in Spain .... "while the rest of Europe thrashed about in the Dark Ages", is all true. That part about the Dark Ages though, is pretty much cliche and that has to do with the point I'm going to make and I'll try to do it in a "nutshell": The Moors invaded Spain occupying it for 800 years. The Christian Kingdoms finally expelled them in 1492. The Jews and Moslems that were expelled were those who refused too convert to Christianity (in today's current lexicon Roman Catholicism). And the Jews and Muslims that were persecuted by the Inquisition were those who had converted to Christianity, but were considered suspect of not a true conversion i.e. they were practicing their original faith in secret. What a difference a "fair and balanced" view of history makes.

As for Moslems fearing a backlash they probably should but not from Spain's historical relationship with Moslems. No, that's what inspired the bombings. The backlash will come because maybe Al Qaeda, with its obvious connection with Islam, just pissed them off. I'm sure that some Spanish Moslem just might say, " Please don't beat me Senor, it may be true I'm a Moslem, but I have no connection with Al Qaeda." Now, that may be likely and he probably shouldn't get beaten. But, really--Give me a break!
