I'm afraid that Western Culture has turned the corner.
It wouldn't surprise me in the least that we were on the cusp of a new paradigm - one where individual freedom becames an unknown concept once again.
It's charecteristic on the Western mind to think of itself in perpetual decline. History is a testament to quite a different dynamic however.
