WASHINGTON (CNN) -- This week's deadly train bombings in Spain will not lead to a rise in the U.S. color-coded terror threat alert system, a Department of Homeland Security spokesman said Friday.

"Based on the current intelligence, we have no specific indicators that terrorist groups are considering such an attack in the U.S. in the near term," said department spokesman Brian Roehrkasse.

Feds Search Plane at Metro, other Airports after Bomb Threat Tuesday, March 30, 2004

BY JIM SCHAEFER FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER Federal agents and Northwest Airlines officials searched three planes today, including one at Metro Airport, after an anonymous caller phoned in bomb threats, federal and airline officials said.

John Bell, special agent in charge of the U.S. Air Marshal Service at the airport, said nothing had been found as of noon. He said such bomb threats were not uncommon.

Northwest spokeswoman Mary Stanik identified the three flights as Miami to Detroit, Memphis to Miami and Los Angeles to Detroit. Only the Miami to Detroit flight actually was completed; the other two planes were being searched at their originating airports, she said.

The flight to Detroit landed safely about 11 a.m., officials said. Passengers and luggage have been unloaded. Stanik said a national news organization reported the threat to the airline. She declined to identify the news outlet. She released no other details.

FBI spokeswoman Dawn Clenney said agents were searching the plane.

``So far, nothing unusual. Everything's OK.''

Looks like things are getting underway. Two big terror attacks averted already today, London and the Phillipines, more attacks in Uzbekistan, now these bomb threats.

Perhaps we won't get the London warning, as it looks like that attack has been stopped.

Nelson said around 11 a.m., a distraught individual made threats to a CBS-affiliated station in New York that three aircrafts were flying into Detroit with explosives.

One of the Northwest planes landed at Detroit Metro Airport and was towed to the southern end of the airport -- away from buildings and other aircraft -- to be searched, according to Barbara Hogan, a spokeswoman for Metro Airport.

Hogan said the plane arrived from Miami about 11 a.m., but that there were no other details available.

Nelson told Local 4 that passengers were let off the plane before authorities began their search.

The other two planes were held at their departure location -- which was not revealed -- for investigation. Those two flights were scheduled to take off this afternoon, according to authorities.

Numerous federal agencies are reportedly involved in the search, but it was not known if anything has been found.

Opinion: If a "distraught individual" did make the call, then that action would have been outside of any terrorist operation plan, IMHO. Someone seems to have breached operational security on the bad guy's end. Therefore, the element of surprise is now lost for our enemies, I think.

I actually meant that it was a good catch on your part. We've been discussing that London would be first and then us. The fact that they broke up the London plot could mean that the hit against us is also in the pipeline. I'm sure we will thwart that one as well.

DETROIT (Reuters) - Security officials aided by sniffer dogs swept through three U.S. passenger jets on Tuesday after they were targeted by bomb threats, authorities said.



The aircraft, all operated by Northwest Airlines, included one that arrived at Detroit's Metropolitan Airport on Tuesday morning on a flight from Miami, spokesmen for Northwest and the Transportation Security Administration, told Reuters.

The plane in Detroit was still being searched about two hours after it landed, according to TSA spokeswoman Yolanda Clark, who added that no explosive device had been found aboard the aircraft.

"So far these threats have not turned out to be credible," Clark told Reuters. She said she was unaware of the source of the bomb threats but added that authorities were "taking every precaution available."

"We're using our canine teams to conduct a full security sweep of these aircraft," Clark said. She said TSA officials had also conducted electronic screening of passengers and luggage linked to the flights that received the bomb threats.

The second and third flights, from Memphis to Miami and Los Angeles to Detroit, were stopped before takeoff and were being searched by Northwest and federal officials, Northwest said in a statement.

Canada official warns on border security

OTTAWA (AP) — The Canadian government has not tightened its security procedures sufficiently after the Sept. 11 attacks, leaving its border and airports vulnerable to terrorist infiltration, a key official said Tuesday.

Auditor General Sheila Fraser said the lack of coordination among security agencies and weaknesses at airports and border crossings need to be urgently addressed.

I heard a quick story last night on the late news and again this morning about a passenger who once he arrived at his assigned seat on an AirTran flight, found someone was in his seat with a ticket that had his name. The legitimate passenger had his ticket with his name, so it was a case of duplicates. He alerted the crew and the other man who was in his seat was taken off of the flight. So either a second ticket was issued under the same name, or someone has access to ticketing info. for flights.

I have been searching and cannot find this story anywhere on the net. If anyone else heard this story, please let me know. Considering the events of today, I find it interesting.
