I suppose this would be a bad thread for me to mention how we used to take shotguns, high-powered rifles, and .22's to school all the time ... for 'marksmanship' class and for hunting and shooting before and after school ... about how when I got a new deer rifle (a .270WinMag) the coach came out to my car and took a look at it ... as a compliment, not a law-enforcement act.
It seems like a different planet, but it wasn't even 30 years ago. Yea, were much better off these days ...

I remember taking a .410 shotgun to school for show and tell in the third grade.
That was in Maryland before the Liberal Socialist Reformation.
