Makes more sense. I worked with a retired Coastie that bragged about his service and made sure to separate them from the Navy. :-) I am sure the Coasties have Chiefs and Master Chiefs though (and these fine folks would probably share their Navy counterparts' opinions on sh*tbirds) ;-)

Exactly. I had a little over 30 and a half years in the Coast Guard when I retired in 1999; then back for a little while after 9/11.
Yep, same ranking system as the Navy but our "average" unit is commanded by a CPO or CWO and has under 30 people.
Besides size and missions of course, the biggest difference between the Coast Guard and the other services is our average unit is located in a small community. We are part of the community and behave accordingly.
No offense to the Navy folks, but we can't afford to act like a bunch of drunken sailors.

Thank God I served in the US Coast Guard back in WW2 days and never had to contend with the "scum" that exists in America today--5 years of CG time (41-47) and proud as hell of the men and shipmates I served with--of course, back in the 'old days' most Americans loved their country OR kept their damn mouths shut--many "good and decent men" went to their deaths back then (as do troopers today in Iraq) and never dreamed of joining the "trash/filth" that has the freedom to speak only because of better mens acts--that Muslim 'piece of crap' is a disgace to an old and honorable service.
