Bush, Fox, promote plan to ease immigration laws

Crawford, Texas - President Bush and Mexican President Vicente Fox joined forces Saturday to promote Bush's plan for easing immigration laws, as Bush acknowledged that the proposal faces a tough time in Congress.

Standing side-by-side in bright sunshine at Bush's Texas ranch, the two leaders said Bush's plan for a new temporary worker program would help both countries by eliminating the underground market for Mexican workers. The proposal would let an estimated 8 million workers who are in the United States illegally gain legal status as guest workers.

"The people who come to this country make a significant contribution to the American economy," Fox told reporters.

Bush's plan, announced in January, has raised expectations in Mexico and among illegal workers in this country, but it has little chance of passing Congress this year. Republican critics say the proposal would reward illegal immigrants; Democrats complain that it does not do enough to help foreign workers become U.S. citizens.

Per capita annual income for all Texas counties bordering Mexico-where most of the colonias are located-tends to be much lower than the state average of $16,717. In border counties such as Starr, Maverick and Hidalgo, per capita annual incomes in 1994 were $5,559, $7,631 and $8,899, respectively.

Here's some common sense for you --- when massive immigration leads to an economy where the average income is $6000 (even less) to $8000 a year per family --- welfare rates and food stamp rates are extremely high. These people need to go back and fix their country.

And some more common sense --- if Mexicans got deported like Haitians do --- Fox could quickly join Aristide in his exile.

Trying to uncross my eyes...Fox must be threatening to campaign for Kerry if Bush doesn't play ball. This is about the only conclusion I can draw that makes any sense.

This is how they're reporting it in the Mexican newspapers here:

Bush Backs Off Fingerprinting Mexicans

It's even in English. Fox must think he's pretty powerful --- forcing down the American president.

Anyone who is for the deportation of Haitians who would very likely work even cheaper than the Mexicans but believes no Mexican can be deported would most likely be a racist. Haitians suffer dire circumstances when deported --- their country is in anarchy --- Mexicans being deported don't have it nearly as bad.

Where do the above stats, in your post before, say "per family?" Cite your source.

You are actually going to through that word around Fitz? I expect more from you... I really do, I can easily trump you on that one, but don't dive into that rhetoric; it's beneath you.

I've read your comments throughout the thread. You toss around accusations against those who are true Americans and conservatives. Those who support the rule of law. You don't care about facts. So, if you can come into a thread and start calling names why can't I? What makes you so special?

The arrogant Fox does much damage to his country/citizens in the eyes of most Americans.

I see what you mean by seperation now; can't you think of a better phrase like "filtering the demographic" or removing the chaffe from the wheat?

Some people can't seem to figure out how to deport 12 million people.....

Well perhaps part of the answer is to severly punish those who employ anyone not here legally. You hire someone who's in the country illegally you're fined the costs in free education, medical care, the costs of non-insurance. If your business is bankrupted, then you will think next time you want to break the law. You'll see a lot of the problem correct itself.
