There is a group of people that inhabit the out islands of S. Carolina called Gullahs (sp). I think they are black and possibly French extraction. They have a unique language.

BTW.. the native Outer Banks folks refer to the rest of us as 'off islanders'. They have a Elizabethan flavor to their speech, fun to hear.
