WORST PRESIDENT IN HISTORY
Kalona News ^ | Feb 15, 2004 | Ethel Bontrager

Posted on 03/03/2004 1:45:51 PM PST by 11th_VA

The following appeared in the Durham, N.C., local paper as a letter to the editor on Feb. 15, 2004.

Liberals claim President Bush shouldn't have started this war. They complain about his prosecution of it. One liberal recently claimed Bush was the worst president in U.S. history. Let's clear up one point: We didn't start the war on terror. Try to remember, it was started by terrorists BEFORE 9/11!

Let's look at the "worst" president and mismanagement claims:

FDR led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us: Japan did. From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost, an average of 112,500 per year.

Truman finished that war and started one in Korea. North Korea never attacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an average of 18,333 per year.

John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us. Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost, an average of 5800 per year.

Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent. Bosnia never attacked us. He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions.

In the two years since terrorists attacked us, President Bush has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled Al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Lybia, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people. We lost 600 soldiers, an average of 300 a year. Bush did all this abroad while not allowing another terrorist attack at home.

Worst president in history? Think about it!

The dumping on other presidents I find disagreeable, just to lift up Bush. The rant ignored the little detail that Germany declared war on the U.S. The guy seems unhappy we went after Hitler, and stopped the invasion in S. Korea.

By the way, LBJ was the worst president in history, going away. He believed Vietman was unwinnable, and let US troops go to their deaths nevertheless by the tens of thousands in a limp wristed effort, he let the inflation genie out of the bottle, that took 15 years to put back in, he facilitated the development of a dependent welfare class, and created a racial quotas spoils system, he abused government power, inter alia unleashing the IRS on his enemies, and he was a pathological liar. Other than that, he was splendid.

LBJ ranks near the bottom of my list, but to me, nobody, not even TRIPOTUS X42 himself, was as incompetent and clueless as Jimmy "I never met a dictator I didn't coddle" Carter.

Hi guy. Your correct, Jimmah is directly responsible for the mullahs in Persia and Islamofacsism today. Not to mention the Panama canal, the energy crises, etc..

I42 is a close second though.

Carter is in the runner up category. The one election I was saddest about bar none in my memory, was when Carter beat Ford. I used the F word many times that election night. My lack of confidence in Carter's ersatz act, and lack of competence and experience and judgment, proved amply justified by events, and that of course was unfortunate. I wished I had been proven wrong. I wasn't.

Ironic that the only dictator the Peanut Farmer sold out was the one we needed then and now: the Shah of Iran.

I won't even go into the Panama Canal. For that alone, he should have been impeached for the high crime of blatant stupidity.

As for the energy crisis, Mark Steyn said it best: "In 1980, Americans had a two-step energy plan. Step one, drive to polls. Step two, vote Jimmy Carter out of office."

Jimmah.

He personally did the scheduling of the White House tennis courts.

Another reason why Carter is so odious were his attempts to enlist the KGB in helping Mondale beat Ronaldus Magnus in 1984. He failed because even the Soviets knew Reagan was going to clean Mondale's clock and wisely stayed out of it.

I used to admire what he was doing with Habitat For Humanity, but since Dubya was elected, he's become even more obnoxious than Algore.

To me it's a toss up among Carter, LBJ and Clintoon.

All have done unspeakable damage to the United States, and, as was mentioned, Bubba's screwups have only begun to bear bitter fruit. God help us because of that idiot.

Carter's follies were because he's just plain stupid; but, towering over his other blunders, his failure to support the Shaw was a major factor in producing the current Islamofascist problem.

LBJ was a socialist FDR wannabe criminal who tried to buy himself a legacy with the taxpayer's money. 58,000 American deaths in Vietnam because of his idiotic handling of the war will be what he's most remembered for. If I ever get to Texas, I've sworn to my lost buddies to piss on his grave.

And is adamant about NOT closing the Mexican border.. The Iraq war could be and probably is, a diversion from the border.. and the INSURGENTS coming acoss it.. proto type democrats all.. Bush is a globalist.. The Iraq war and the mexican insurgents both serve the globalist agenda..

Great read. I don't know a lot about our past presidents in American History but I can say without reservations that Jimmy Carter is, for sure, the worst president in my lifetime.

Clearly. Buchanan had no ability to avert anything. He didn't have much influence either way. He was just a time server, like his predecessors. The issue between the states, needed to be resolved with blood. The key was to delay it, until the Yankees had the power to win. That was not the case in 1850, it was in 1860. Those ten years were critical. To the extent Buchanan was part of the delay, however inadvertantly, he did the body good.
