Question: How much does John Edwards pulling out (as reported by AP) help us with polls still open in California? :-)

I'm leaving shortly to gather with fellow Republicans to watch the results, but keep this thread humming and post results as they rolls in (hate to post & run, but hey... ;-)).

Has anybody heard any news on what's happening with the B-1 Bob vs Dana Rohrbacher race? Any polls. That seems to be about the only really interesting congressional primary around.

Turnout seemed relatively high here (Rosamond), even with all the "sunshine" <:). There were lines at both sign in tables and all 10? machines were occupied.

It'll be interesting to see what the turnout for the American Independent party is. California voters who are not registered as members of a political party are allowed to choose to vote in the primary of some of the parties (Dem, Rep, AI). I'm registered "nonpartisan" and I had the following experience today:

POLL WORKER: "Are you registered with a party?"

ME: "No, I'm an independent."

Getting to the machine, I realized I'd been handed a card authorizing me to voter in the American Independent primary. If I'm not the only guy in the state who experienced the independent/Independent confusion, AI may have a considerably larger turnout than usual.

Me? I now feel fully qualified for that move to Palm Beach.

do you realize that this would have been election night for the recall election if the 9th Circuit decision hadn't been overturned?

My post election analysis (rant):

Somehow, I can't say I'm really surprised. Once in a while, California pleasantly surprises me. Other times, I end up banging my head against the wall. As I refill the ice bag for my cranium, my thoughts...

I am unsure as to how many write-in votes Tom Tancredo got, aside from my own, but if counties do tally uncertified write-ins, its a figure I'd love to see. For an informal, unorganized effort to throw a shot across Jorge Bushamecha's bow, I bet Tom did better than the bots would expect.

Thank God Rosario Marin got squashed. If she was the new face of the GOP then I'm the new face of hip hop music. I expected Casey to do better. I expected Kaloogian to do much better. But ah well, Jones is a good man, and we can just put him on an 8-month sugar rush and get some life out of him, he may just surprise Boxer, and us. I have no qualms about backing him now, but he's starting off deeply in debt.

Last time I checked, the returns for the 3rd C.D. had Lungren a point ahead of Oller. I'm praying for absentees to put Oller through. PLEASE!

Sonny Sardo not only faced a high mountain, but a near vertical cliff in his battle to unseat David Dreier. I'd have at least liked to see him give Dreier a good scare. Oh well, hopefully Sardo will stay an active player.

I WISH that Bob Dornan had chosen to run against Boxer instead of Dana Rohrabacher. You could sell that one on pay-per-view and pay off half of Bush's deficit with the revenue. Instead, B-1 took one one of his own and got 17%. The establishment has a way of closing ranks when threatened by a straight-shooter, and for someone who likes both candidates, it was a toughie.

Michael Jackson (I'm not kidding) gets defeated by Cesar Castellanos for the GOP nod in the 27th Senate District. Evidently name recognition when tied to a pedophile is NOT good. Go Cesar!

John Campbell had just about everything going for him in the 35th S.D. race over Ken Maddox and Col. Joe Snyder. He traded his support of the governor's props for the endorsement of the gov. No surprise.

39th S.D., Judge Larry Stirling wins the GOP nomination in his battle to win back this Senate seat he held about a decade ago. It'll be a tough race in the fall, but Larry's up to it.

No-spine Mike Briggs gets defeated in his come-back bid for the 21st (?) Assembly seat. Hopefully the winner won't have any trouble finding the farm bureau.

A heart-breaker in the true GOP vs. no good RINO battle. Dave Wilcox ran a 10-month grassroots campaign in the 44th A.D., and lefty Lynn Gabriel enters the race hours before the filing deadline and throws tons of money into the race. Plus the establishment backs her. Add in plenty of mudslinging and lies about Dave, and it scores as a 53-47 win for Gabriel. Damn.

The triple threat race for the Republican nomination in the 60th A.D. ends up with a surprisingly big win for Bob Huff. Gayle Pacheco banking on succeding her termed-out husband and Bill MacAloney hoped he, as the sole O.C. candidate, would benefit from the two L.A. County candidates splitting the vote reaped nothing. Safe GOP registration means Huff will be the next Assemnblyman.

Recent Democrat Christie Cristich gets whacked in her bid to nab the 70th A.D. Congrats to Republican Chuck DeVore who bested her. Another safe seat for the GOP in fall.

Prop. 55: When I went to bed last night the measure was losing by 1 point. This morning, it's ahead. So I ask, HOW MUCH F'ING MONEY IS ENOUGH???

Prop. 56: While the people are easily duped into voting to throw money at schools (for the children!), they saw this ugly mound of crap a mile away. For once demonstrating some sense, they killed 56 and stuck it to the liberals. Watch for this one to come back in a few years with some more carrots, but no less dishonesty.

Props. 57/58: Well, 58 looked like the more likely to pass, based on it's non-offensive title alone, so I was looking for 57 to be killed and thus kill the whole deal. But no dice. We borrow billions more to cover past debt and wait for things to improve (?). Well Mr. S, you got your wish, now produce.

(BTW, Schwarzenegger's enthusiasm and optimism is great to watch. I love seeing him give speeches because he has so much love for the state and sincerely wants to make things better and is not motivated by any sense of selfishness. But I couldn't help to notice the man standing behind him on the right side of my TV screen last night. Standing there with his feigned smile, and blackened sinister eyes. Yes Virginia, that was Senator Gil Cedillo, whom Mr. S will be working with to pass a law giving illegal aliens drivers licenses in a manner which will not allow the law to be referended. No thanks, Arnold. I'm still not joining you.)
