I'd been wondering why it's been so quiet over there for the past week, and now I know - they were getting ready for this series of coordinated blasts. Bastards.

If this posting at Debka is true..
US Baghdad Commander Brig. Kimmit ascribes Karbala-Baghdad attacks in which 143 Shiites killed to suicide bombers controlled by al Qaeda operative Musab Zarqawi in conjunction with Lebanese Hizballah.
US and Polish troops caught red-handed and are interrogating several attackers one in Karbala, others in Baghdad still wearing bomb belts that failed to detonate. Mortar fire and grenades also used in coordinated attacks on Shiite Ashoura festival. Iraqi Governing Council declares three days mourning, calls for national unity in face of terrorism.
The bad guys just screwed up..

I was thinking about this whole homicide bomber-72 virgin thing the other day. Hopefully, sooner or later those morons are going to realize that they are being sent to their punishment, not reward. Now think about it; 72 virgins - once you've had them, they're no longer virgins, so basically, they're going to have not very good sex only 72 times for the rest of eternity. That's a reward?

I sure hope so. If the good guys have apprehended one failed bomber, they is a reasonable chance that more were nabbed before they detonated. Of course, the reasonableness of the possibility is perhaps something that Debka can use to gin up a believable story.
But I sure do hope we fully crack the mob. This has got to stop.

"...CNN reporting that some Iraqis are blaming the Iraqi police and the Americans..."
My guess is that these people are agents, part of the operation, planted there to direct Iraqi anger following the explosions and thereby gain maximum benefit from the attack.

Hmmm. Something else. The fact that there were hundreds of thousands of Iranians in-country for the Azhoura pilgrimage leads me to suspect that two hands are at work here: Al Qaeda, whose motives are obvious, and the Iranian
Pasdaran, the special services of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. The Iranians would love to take Sistani, a rival ayatollah, down a peg. The last thing the Mullahs want to see is the center of gravity of the Shi'ite Universe move from Q'om in Iran to Karbala and An-Najaf.
The Lebanese Shi'ite who couldn't keep his piehole shut just might have given the game away. Hezboallah is in the back pocket of Tehran.

Just out of curiosity, is anyone tracking how many Iraqis have been killed by their fellow møøselimbs since the active phase was declared over Vs how many were killed in combat with us?
I bet we're near or past the crossover point...
To: Dog
Hah hah, I guess their new bombmaker is not so good. Remember they killed Musab Zarqawi's lieutenant (the bombmaker) last week or week before last. Remember Geraldo going through his bag and finding all kinds of bomb making paraphanelia including a medium size toy remote car.

From what I've seen, Karbalah is a beautiful little town. We need to protect our new national landmarks better.Well you just run right on over there and tend to that kinghorse, I'll be right here when and if you get back. See ya.

Sometimes (Like at the moment) I feel that these people are too depraved for there to be any hope of a civilized Iraq. I have to remind myself when I see stuff like this
that our troops are fighting and dying for our security at home and just not just only for people who wish to harm themselves in medieval celebrations.
