jazz singer was NOT first Hollywood film to have sound and picture.

Synched sound (optical soundtrack) on film goes back to 1922. The technique was stolen from the inventor by the industry. I saw a documentary on it last year at the Houston Film Fest.

He was also pivitol in the development of amplified sound.

He won his day (but little reward) somewhere in the 1950s even though he had pursued the case for decades.
