For my ownself, the last movie I saw in a theater was E.T. in the 80s.
I do *not* go to theaters and I -always- wait around and buy the DVD of movies I want to see.
I'm sure there are a LOT of people just like me.
They can't even begin to guess how many DVDs will be sold when it comes out.
I almost waited for this movie on DVD so that I could watch and "shut it off" if I had to.
When Wednsday came, I found myself almost inexorably compelled to get out and see it -now-.
I'm glad I did.

I think the *REAL* numbers are going to pump through on Sunday afternoon after church lets out. At least in the south, I know the Baptists are going to walk straight from the church to the theaters. Wednesday was probably actually hampered by Wednesday night congregations.
