[history]
California firms find doing business here so difficult that 40 percent of those surveyed plan to move some jobs out of state and 50 percent will not add jobs within the state, according to a study released Thursday.
The report, issued by the California Business Roundtable, said the cost of doing business in the state is 30 percent higher than in other Western states, with regulatory costs the biggest culprit.

And a franchise tax? Now there's a poke in the eye for anyone who wants to start a small business in California.

Until and unless California decides to redistrict, the state's present fiscal attitudes are going to prevail. Don't look for solutions that reverse this trend anytime soon.
Redistricting will not shift the balance of political power in the state but it will will produce a crop of legislators that are more responsive to the statewide needs of the electorate rather than the monolithic concerns of artificially selected constituent districts that exist under the present plan.
Today California's legislature is closer to a Parliament than a Congress.

The report, issued by the California Business Roundtable, said the cost of doing business in the state is 30 percent higher than in other Western states, with regulatory costs the biggest culprit. Just shocks the hell out of me. So why do I find so little interest in doing something fundamental to change that?
Because the big players love it this way. They can use regulations to kill their competition, buy the assets on the cheap, and raise prices.

What is the open mic incident?

BTW, It must be mentioned that this same regulatory environmentalism was recently fingered as the cause for much of the delays in beefing up border security!
The, "it's all Bushes fault" doesn't carry much water in this area either.
The disease of liberalism is at fault.

I feel for Arnie and all my friends and relatives in California but I hope the state goes completely bankrupt. Maybe it will be the jolt it needs for Californians to wake up and kick the asses of the Liberal Democratic house and senate out of power. California is like a drunk that has to hit bottom before saying, Hey, I'm sick and I need help. The Sac-Bee is a big part of the problem, but of course they don't see it.

"I don't see how a state can compete when it's cutting transportation funding and cutting money for higher education," Levy said.Oh yea, right! Like some guy sitting at his desk is saying, "gee, what would really help my business? Oh, yea, we need more higher eduction. That will do it."
I can't believe the reporter even wasted his time printing this drivel of a quote.

Isn't this a subset of outsourcing?Let's call it "out-stating." California can accuse its businesses of exporting their high-paying jobs to third-world states like Nevada and Arizona.
To: John Jorsett
Your response smacks of semantics. My point is with so many on this board and elsewhere decry and blame greedy corporate chieftains for outsourcing with the resultant loss of jobs whereas this article demonstrates the underlying causes are more political than corporate greediness.

I don't know you from Adam, your history on FR, nor anything else you've ever posted. I made a humorous (or so I thought) reference to the outcry about "outsourcing." It would be a mistake to infer from it anything regarding my personal viewpoint on the issue, which is more complex than can be devined from a one-liner.
To: John Jorsett
There was little from your original response to ascertain whether or not it was meant to be humorous. Unfortunately, your initial response is typical of those who refuse to acknowledge that there are many reasons for outsourcing and not solely those greedy corporations.

Hey John, we don't want those Californians in Nevada. We have our own problems without being Cali fornicated. Water our biggest problem in Southern Nevada is not going to get any better, with our rampant growth the picture only grows uglier
