"The film opened on 4,600 screens in 3,006 theaters on Wednesday."

I wonder how many screens most of the "blockbusters" were alloted for their big openings?

Could be wrong, but I'm guessing substantially more.

I did a comparison between Passion and Spiderman on another thread.

Spidey opened on 3700 theaters on 7500 screens on a FRIDAY and did $43.6 Million -- an Average of $5700 per screen(that is the alltime, LOTR's 34.4 noted in the article is alltime midweek)

PAssion opened on 4600 screens in 3000 theaters for an Average of $5600 per screen.

So, on a PER SCREEN basis only, PASSION opened on a Wed with basically the same Average Per Screen as SPIDERMAN on a FRIDAY.
