NEW YORK (Reuters) - Shock jock Howard Stern's show was yanked Wednesday from Clear Channel Communications Inc. radio stations after an incident on his show Tuesday, the first casualty of its zero tolerance policy on indecency.
"It was vulgar, offensive and insulting, not just to women and African Americans but to anyone with a sense of common decency," Clear Channel Radio Chief Executive John Hogan said in a statement.
"We will not air Howard Stern on Clear Channel stations until we are assured that his show will conform to acceptable standards of responsible broadcasting," he said.
Clear Channel has about 1,200 stations in the United States though it was not immediately clear how many aired his show.
Stern's show is syndicated by a unit of Viacom Inc.

Maybe that's why Stuttering JOhn left.

He's a pornographer, foul-mouthed, mysoginistic, and snide....just the kind of thing adolescent males love. Most of us grow out of that kind of thing. I agree. I turn him on occasionally and he always ends up disgusting me.
It's not even shocking, it's just base and juvenile.
Funny thing is I loved his movie..the one about his career, I forget the title.

I imagine XM would love to have exclusive contracts with big-draw talk radio hosts such as Stern.XM is partially owned by Clear Channel. If you want choice, you'll have to come to Sirius.

So in the new America the poor will have bland television and radio spoonfed to them by a handful of mega corps while those that can afford cable and XM radio rates can experiance choice?Uh, yes. That pretty much covers it.

I cringe at the notion of censorship.
Really?....I rather doubt that as I'm sure there are some things even you would not appreciate being broadcast.
When it comes to the airwaves I only cringe at the the idea of censorship leveled at political expression, and anyone who cannot express their political views ( no matter how radical) without resorting to vulgarity is simply not meriting of airtime.
Asking adults who use the airwaves to exhibit some sense of decency (and that applies to FOX network) is a reasonable IMO.
It's sad that contemporary American adults don't act like adults and reign in their most base indulgences for obscene entertainment.
"If it feels good do it" is a slogan that is being proven unwise to live by.

"Apparently freedom of speech means that my kids are forced to watch lesbians french kissing on the network news when they report about gay marriage." I agree. And it's appropriate people are saying "Enough is Enough" during an election year. The morals of NYC and LA (city) don't define reality for the 3100 miles between them.
At work, I got everyone that likes a radio babysitter to listen to Rush! And Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Michael Medved, etc. I have noticed people who listen to FM music make more mistakes than those who listen to conservative talk radio. FM music/talk doesn't challenge the mind. I think I can tell who likes which form by looking at their eyes. You can tell who's thinking and who isn't by their eyes and body language.
I must go. A friend from Alberta, CA wants to talk to me:):)

Think "community standards" based upon America's well documented Christ-affected culture, and I think you'll breathe easier, FRiend.

I am getting you censored for your offensive remarks to me.Offensive? They're no more offensive than those uttered by that scumbag Stern, whom you love.
BTW, your arguments about "sacred marriage" on that other thread ring hollow, Destro, as you defend this anal-sex-obsessed pornographer.

You need to keep your hands out of my pants. I'm grateful for those who keep Howard Stern's tongue out of our children's ears (not to mention those of the adults such words defile into doing harm).

Yea. His official job was telephone operator. He was able to supplement his radio income with appearances and gigs. John worked for the radio station not Stern.
By the way from http://marksfriggin.com/news.htm#wed "Mr. Skin told Howard that they have video and pictures of Jolene Blalock nude from the Canadian version of ''Enterprise.'' They showed her ass in the Canadian version."
I feel cheated.

Seems to me anyone that would actually listen to stern wouldn't be offended.
Probably wouldn't be offended by anything.

The FCCs definition for indecency reads, Indecent speech is language that, in context, depicts or describes sexual or excretory activities or organs in terms patently offensive as measured by contemporary community standards for the broadcast medium.
Federal courts have upheld that definition. Federal law also prohibits the utterance of any obscene, indecent or profane language by means of radio communication.
