Body found in ship channel

A tugboat captain and a boat hand pulled the body of a man out of the ship channel Thursday night, police said.
Corpus Christi police have not identified the man but the boat hand told police he recognized him as someone who worked in the area and often ran on a barge for exercise.
The unidentified tugboat captain called police shortly after 8:30 p.m. and reported he spotted a body floating between two barges docked in a small industrial harbor in the 1200 block of McBride Lane. He awakened the boat hand who then helped him pull the man's body from the water.
It was unclear how long he had been in the water. He had last been seen at about 7 p.m. when he told co-workers he was going for a jog.
Investigators could not determine whether the man had fallen from the barge; at 10: 30 p.m. Thursday they had not ruled out foul play. The Port Authority has taken over the investigation.
