You say 'being against the President' - but I would quibble with your words.
Kaloogian is not against the President. He is against a policy the President has proposed.
There are lots of conservatives who don't like some of the provisions of the Patriot Act.
But of those who feel that way, plenty of them still support Bush because of the points you make. Yes, some say they now don't support Bush, but that's not what Kaloogian or Tancredo is doing with the immigration issue.
You place the burden on Kaloogian and Tancredo to not advocate against an amnesty/guest-worker plan. I place the burden on Bush to be politically astute enough not to go against Republican beliefs - especially when the issue is one that a number of Indepents and even Democrats agree on.
"Now, more than ever, President Bush needs someone who is willing to fight with him to keep America headed in the right direction to keep our taxes low and our national security assured." Source: www.HowardForSenate.com
I think that makes it clear how Kaloogian feels about Bush and puts into context his opposition to the amnesty/guest worker plan.
I think some of you have short memories, after watching Californians cut Gray Davis to pieces with a political chain saw, I wouldn't concede or take for granted anything as times are a changin. Seems to me, with some of these policies that are coming out of this administration, they ought to be concerned with losing states other large states, not just California.
