Tender Mercies 1983? took 1 year to get financed. The bridge financing was finally obtained when Duvall put up some of the money himself. It won 2 academy awards, including Best Actor (Duvall) and returned 600% on its investment over 4 years.
Touched by an Angel was scheduled to be cancelled after 4 episodes, until a massive write-in campaign happened. It was more profitable than Seinfeld (80% cheaper to produce)
Go figure.

The Old Hollywood was actually part of an old popular culture establishment that was friendly towards religion.
In the 1950's, for example, Christian values and religious belief were reflected throughout mainstream popular culture, not just in movies. Popular songs with religious overtones included "Les Trois Cloches" ("The Three Bells"), "I Believe," "This Old House," "They Locked God Outside the Iron Curtain," "The Red Deck of Cards," "He," and "He's Got the Whole World In His Hands." Even Elvis Presley's 1958 hit "Hard-Headed Woman" was based on stories from the Old Testament.
Some of the hottest-selling books of the decade included A Man Called Peter, the story of Senate Chaplain Peter Marshall, by his widow Katherine Marshall (which was also made into a movie) and The Power of Positive Thinking by the influential preacher Norman Vincent Peale. And one of the biggest television stars of the decade was Fulton Sheen, a Catholic cleric.
While it is true that you can still find music, books, and television shows that emphasize religious themes and values, you have to look for them in nich markets such as Christian radio and television stations, as they have long since vanished from mainstream popular culture.

Hollywood is exactly like the rest of the anti-Jehovah world. Their core hatred is a result, of course, of choosing to follow Satan, even though most don't consciously make the choice. The surface hatred is because they don't want anyone or anything to suggest that right and wrong exists. Simply put, they want to be able to live with themselves without giving up their sin, so they find ways to convince themselves there's no such thing as sin. Then EVERYTHING is wide open. Every perversion is okay. They can live their hedonistic lives and think of themselves as "good."
Again, it all comes back to Satan. If you don't believe that, ask yourself why every other religion in the world is okay with the left. No problem. "Respect their faith," they'd say. Not with the Judeo-Christian God, however. The merest mention of Him is enough to send many of the Godless into a manic fit. Why? Because Jehovah, Jesus, the Judeo-Christian God, is the only one Satan is scared of. And there's the whole issue in a nutshell.

Many from the porn business and their supporters took over and have made it more or less a closed shop. Look at the values promoted by many of the prime time shows. Why promote values that destroy family life and promote one-night stands in this age of AIDS?

Hollywood endorses everything the Bible speaks out against. Hollywood doesn't want any competition is recruiting evil to its ranks. Evil is not tolerant, patient or kind ... it is the exact opposite.

Two other reasons were the much-maligned Hayes Code and fear of the Roman Catholic Legion of Decency, Protestant Council of Churches and local leaders who were willing and able to enforce censorship statutes.
Many of the films of the 1920s were quite racy and there were complaints that they glorified prostitutes, bootleggers and the like. The final straw was the popularity of gangster pictures beginning in the early 1930s. There was legitimate concern that they glamorized gangsters so the Legion of Decency, Council of Churches and local leaders told Hollywood to clean up its act or they would launch boycotts and legal action against it. Hollywood listened.

Why did Hollywood come to hate religion? Marx replaced God. He answers his own question I think, quite correctly, but the answer begs another question; Why did Hollywood embrace Marxism?
Entertainers and atists have been exalted throughout history, regardless of the type of political organization. In short, unlike the rest of us, they instinctively recognize no debt to capitalism. Their success comes not so much from hard work and following a gradual upward carreer path, but sometimes through genetic providence can leap-frog to success.

I have been to few movies in the last several years. I went to see Lord of the Rings and the sequels, Dr. Doolittle and the sequel and Saving Private Ryan. Im basically a poor boy, and wont waste my time or money on a movie that doesnt appear worth watching when I see the trailers.
I received a DVD player Christmas of 2003. I periodically check out the rental stores for something to watch. Ive used it twice - to watch Saving Private Ryan a second time and to watch an old Godzilla movie.
I guess I just cant change with the times. I dont find the new crop of Glamour glamorous. I dont consider many of the current crop of award winners to be very good actors. The plots are usually trite and try to make up for lack of substance with gratuitous sex and violence. Ive had plenty of sex and violence in my life. If I want to entertain myself with sex and violence I only have to set back and reminisce - and the plots are much better.

Why did Hollywood come to Hate Religion? >>>>>
It's easier to sell crap to folks with no values, no standards. Gotta remove religion, then $$$$ come rolling in. The lowest of creatures out in Hollywood. They give some reason for the rest of the world to disdain us.
Many Hollywood producers and owners are among America's worst enemies.
