A federal grand jury added extortion and attempted bribery charges Friday against Justice Oliver Diaz Jr. and trial lawyer Paul Minor, postponing their March 1 trial.

Minor's lawyer, Abbe Lowell of Washington, D.C., called the new charges outrageous, saying his client will plead innocent to them.

I'll take Mississippi over NY every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

NY "justice" and Mississippi "justice" is like comparing the benefits of removing a tooth with a sledgehammer versus a pair of pliers!

Mississippi's massive poverty is directly caused by exploitation of the good citizens of the Magnolia State by an entrenched, wealthy, corrupt lawyer elite.

No business in their right mind would locate to liability friendly Mississippi. Obstetricians and trauma care docs have been run out of the state by the shysters and their judges.

I hope Governor Barbour is capable of reform. The problem is that the Republicans are just as corrupt as the rats in Mississippi, so I wouldn't hold my breath for more tort reform.

My home state was quite poor long before the tort kings took root.

They have only exacerbated an existing wound and expolited an opening given them by a sympathetic state legislature and quite amenable jury pool.

Tort abuse is only one facet .

Republicans are never as corrupt as democrats. Too stupid.

As for NY, you also have a GOP governor, but both of our US Senators are GOP, whereas yall have the utter disgraces of Schumer and Hitlery.

No medical doctor in his right mind would open a practice in MS, but MS is getting new residents in the form of a "retired" medical doctor and his family soon = my family.

At Mississippi has two Republican Senators. I suspect the state is also a good retirement location. However, the medical care in the Magnolia State sounds like it is in deep lawyer-induced decline. What about your personal medical care when you move south?

NY has the two biggest disgraces in the US Senate: Hillary and Chuckie Cheese Schumer.

Husband says medical facilities and the quality of practicing physicians in MS is surprisingly good. He's noot worried, so I'll not worry either.

BTW, please know that I think Haley Barbour "could" walk on water were he ever to try. :)

That's awesome, bourbon! Thanks for the links!

Did you even bother to read bourbon's links? There have been problems, but they will be addressed.

"The incredibly wealthy lawyer elite also make Mississippi the poorest, most third world-like of all US states."

Not only is that statement wrong, but it is very tacky. Have you ever spent any amount of time in Mississippi?

BTW, Mississippi has indoor plumbing, now, and they DO wear shoes...but only when they have to.

Any of you Mississippians need physicians? Meridian has an epidemic of 'em. ;o)

The legacy of Cotton Mather continues unabated.

Who would Yankees have to pick on as the moral pejorative if we weren't around?

I'm glad we're able to help them through their neurosis....it's the least we can do.

LOL! You said a mouthful, and are right on the money.

I am truly surprised that supposedly conservative freepers have that liberal elite attitude. It's really disappointing, and aggravates me to no end.
