You forgot this blurb about the author of this article. Matt Hayes began practicing immigration law shortly after graduating from Pace University School of Law in 1994, representing new immigrants in civil and criminal matters. He is the author of The New Immigration Law and Practice, to be published in October.
Semma that Mr. Hayes is getting his order from the Kerry/Moby group
Exactly. As if the doors weren't open before Dubya said anything. Let's go back to thinking that doing nothing will help. Let's also look at how Massachusetts has handled the immigration issue...ever been to Lawrence? No Democrat or Republican is going to use SWAT teams to round up illegals. Sorry, ain't gonna happen. Let's not lose the war because we don't like a particular stategery on the battlefied. Let's not be "principled" Republican and help elect Kerry who will truly open the doors.

Let's go back to thinking that doing nothing will help.In the context of the article, doing nothing would've been the better option.

"Let's go back to thinking that doing nothing will help."
Like the proposal will do anything to help? How will it? What will happen if they don't come forward? What will happen if they don't leave after the 5 years (or whatever the time period is)? How many guest workers will be allowed into the country? If that number is reached, what will be done to keep any illegals from entering after that? What is stop illegals from coming in anyway?
The answer is to enforce the current laws (isn't that what we say when cries for new gun laws are raised), lean on agencies that don't turn over illegals that they encounter (threaten ending federal grants and loans to them), hire more border agents and increase patrols (maybe integrate DEA with the patrols), etc. That will help with national security.
