Ben Afleck was going to be the starter? How the hell did that happen in the first place?

Ben Affleck sure looked like he was respectful to Laura Bush in the picture of him shaking hands with her. I guess they aren't so smart mouthed and nasty when they are surrounded with Bush's adoring fans. These people better be careful about their condescending attitudes about NAASCAR and its fans. They are solidly behind Bush and were before his visit. They just can't stand the idea that anybody, much less a huge group like racing fans would like Bush. My reaction to this article is eat your heart out!

Blame the France family. With the growth of NASCAR they're trying to bring in all the big stars. Affleck driving the pace car and Whoopi Goldberg looking like an absolute idiot on the starter's stand, holding out the flag with both hands
The analysts may not think of NASCAR Dads as green, but a well-oiled administration that revoked approval of the Kyoto protocols, made a scam of fuel emission standards and barely uttered a post-9/11 peep about renewable energy is offering the next generation a future as dark as the track
I doubt there were more than 5 people at that race, and less than 10 watching the race to be watching it and not the photo op from Bush that could care less about Kyoto or 'alternative' fuels

Ben Afleck was going to be the starter? How the hell did that happen in the first place? I thought he was driving the pace car or something. Besides, Affleck talked nicely with W and Laura before the race -- it didn't look like he was annoyed in any way by seeing Bush, even though he's a Dem. The only anger Affleck showed that day was when reporters asked him about the A-Rod trade to the Yankees!
