LET'S TALK ABOUT "YOUR" JOBS
Nealz Nuze ^ | Wednesday, February 18, 2004 | Neal Boortz

Posted on 02/18/2004 5:12:57 AM PST by beaureguard

Jobs .. and the economy. Those seem to be the issues that are driving many, if not most, of those who are supporting the Kerry candidacy.

First of all ... I'm going to repeat this simply because it makes the whiners so unbelievably angry. Listen up. They're not your jobs! The jobs belong to the employers .. not to you! You have job skills and, presumably, a willingness to work. Your task in a free economy is to get out there and find some employer with a job who needs your skills ... and strike a deal.

If you do not have the particular set of job skills that an employer needs, of if you have priced your labor out of the marketplace, guess what? It's not the employer's fault. The fault lies with you. Either develop a new set of job skills that are actually in demand, or adjust your pricing. The employer knows what he's looking for you. If you're not it .. it's your problem, not his.

Now ... you say you're going to vote for a Democrat this year because of jobs? You mean to tell me that you're going to vote against George Bush this year because you don't have a set of job skills that are in demand in our free marketplace? Yeah .. that makes a lot of sense, doesn't it?

Tell me. Just what do you want the president to do? You information technology people out there .. just what are you demanding? Do you want companies to stop outsourcing IT jobs to India? OK ... tell me how to do that. These companies aren't shipping parts overseas and completed products back. All they do is ship information overseas by phone lines or the Internet. Then that information is modified and shipped back the same way. What do you want the government .. the president to do? Do you want some federal law that prohibits companies from transmitting information overseas by the Internet, having that information transformed or modified, and then shipped back? And tell me just how do you enforce that law? Does that law then apply to you also if you seek information from a company that is located overseas, thus depriving a domestic company of your business?

Ditto for manufacturing. I've already told you the story about the California company that makes computer mouses. (computer mice?) This company ships the components to China. The mouse is assembled in China and shipped back, then sold for around $40. Why? Because the assembly is cheaper in China than it would be in the US. So, you say you want the president to force this company to have that mouse assembled in the US? Fine .. then the price for the mouse goes up to about $70 a pop and sales drop. As the sales drop the jobs of the people in this country who manufacture the components for that mouse go away. Then the 100 marketing jobs this company supports in California also go away. You see, perhaps you can succeed in forcing this company to assemble these mouses in the US, but there just isn't any way you can force the American consumer to pay 80% more for the "made in America" version.

As Bruce Bartlett says in an article listed in my reading assignments, "No nation has ever gotten rich by forcing its citizens to pay more for domestic goods and services that could have been procured more cheaply abroad."

What we are seeing here is a demonstration of the "government owes me" mentality of far too many Americans. Every time you arrive at a speed bump in your life's journey you start screaming to the government for help. Sure, the speed bump is going to slow you down a bit ... but just keep moving forward and things inevitably pick up speed again. Americans are becoming helpless whiners. The more helpless you are, and the more you whine, the more likely it is you're going to vote for a Democrat. Democrats specialize in stroking the malcontent.

Congratulations, whiners. At a time when America if fighting World War IV, the war against Islamic terrorism ... you're going to vote for a candidate who wants to treat terrorism as a freaking law enforcement problem because you've made some pitiful jobs choices. Pitiful.

we are probably in the same generation

Why thank you for the implied invitation, raybbr! But, turning my personal, pre-WWII clock back to join your generation would be like a Third Chance for me to set things straight. Here's a hint: although I occasionally find Jay Leno somewhat droll, he sure ain't no Dave Garroway... much less a Jack Parr.

Speaking of generations, while I was away adventuring and incidentally defending the borders of the Free World, between 1960 and 1966, it's evident that I missed something big happening here at home. When I returned, the country had been somehow fundamentally altered. I have spent the years in between then and now trying to figure out what the hell happened ... and exactly what the mix of better and worse really is in the context of history.

You think this article is helpful? You think someone who is unemployed and about to lose his home to foreclosure will become convinced by something like this to vote Republican?

Of course not. It's a feel good article. Boortz feels good writing it, and those who agree feel good reading it.

But the unemployed will feel that they've been kicked when they're down. They may also feel a bit ashamed, but mostly they'll feel dissed, discarded, and resentful.

You shipped out in 1960, during 'The American High' [V-J Day] and returned after it ended [November 22, 1963].

You came back just after the beginning of the Consciousness Revolution [Beetles on the Ed Sullivan Show] and have continued to live through the Culture Wars [1984-to mid 200?].

Have no fear, though...

MARTA is a fairly relied upon source of transit down here. those without cars can use this, but the 80% still applies here too for some reason. tv is one thing. cable tv is a luxury.

whats scaring me is that this means that fundamental communism makes fundamental capitalism bow to it. it forces US to change so that THEY dont come to our door...

we are being told to give up a little of what we promised to protect the rest of it, where as the communists simply keep doing what they do. (this includes the killings, enslavement, and other acts of brutality... but this form of government has no problem stepping on its people to exist)

closing down open markets world-wide is us saying "we're wrong" to the world. whether we are or not.

Yes, and that "auto mechanic shortage" that is being announced? Well guess what? All the gov't has to do is say "there won't be enough American auto mechanic workers to fill the positions so we need more H1Bs." Shortly thereafter, the Mumbai Academy of Auto Technology will mushroom and we will have the same issues as IT is now facing. ANYTHING can be outsourced. With all this new overseas nano technology, they will be beaming in big macs from Baghdad.

What if they buy books which are more expensive than TV? Should the welfare recepients be allowed to eat sweets?

"The whole slave labor thing gets thrown in to create moral drama."

It's hyperbole - however, the liberals actually believe it. They think any1 working below the (unconstitutional) minimum wage is a slave.

"What, if anything, does the average RAT use for a brain?"

Hmmmmm.
ABCNBCMSNBCCBSCNN?
Just guessin', though. ;^)

"Then I hear some RAT politician from Illinois blaming Bush for the loss of business and jobs in Illinois."

HA!!
Yup, that's how it's done, alright.
Just as if there were low unemployment they'd congradulate themselves, saying they'd never worked so hard in their lives, no thanks to Bush. :o)

"The area in question is primarily Chicago/Cook County. That is a totally RAT dominated area where business and jobs are being driven out because of the exhorbitant taxation which is secondary to the RAT's outrageous spending!"

Careful there, young Lady.
*That's* not a hallmark exclusive to 'Rats, y'know; or, should I say not any more.

"I am not sure how I am going to survive listening to this BS until November--wake me when it's over!"

Now this I can help you with!!
Turn *off* WLS.
There, done.
No charge. {g}

"Did you perchance hear about the $40 mil/year contract with independent trucking companies and the City of Chicago? The companies were getting paid for doing nothing! Coincidentally Richie's brother wrote all the insurance policies for those trucking companies."

Well for crying out loud, why'd ya think Air Force 1 would carry Clinoccio's corrupt ass into the windy city at *least* 4 times a year -- every year -- for the *8* years he was POTUS??
For deep dish pizza?

I think it's kind of obvious [now] Clintigula enjoyed acting as his own bagman.
Sure sign of undue greed, too. :o)

"However, the RATS seem to forgive and forget those transgressions."

*Trangressions*, what transgressions?
Never heard anything on ABCNBCMSNBCCBSCNN about any transgressions.

Hey, what're you anyway.

...some kinda troublemaker? {g}

The issue of slave labor in China is hyperbole?

Come on!

If you read back the thread you can't see that customs officials can even begin to identify the depth of the problem because the CEOs of American corporations and the Chinese are working in collusion to keep the information from getting to the public.

And to all the free traders--it is ruthless and unethical to use slave labor. But don't let that stop you from enjoying the money you're making off of other people's misery.

No, it's not hyperbole, and I'm not talking about US workers getting miniumum wage. I'm talking about *Chinese* prisoners in Chinese prisons. Some of them no doubt are felons who would be imprisoned in the US as well, but the vast majority are *prisoners of conscience* - people who either opposed the government, or were of the "wrong" religion, or both.

I know that true slaves exist; however, the term "slave" is often thrown around in hyperbole (whether you know it or not) just because say, and illegal alien makes "only" $4/hr. When you agree to work and are not held to it at the point of a gun or bayonet, you are NOT a slave. That's all I'm saying. I'm not talking just about the China talk.

As for this *whole* issue - why is it so complex? Why don't we just agree that every1 has the natural right to do what they damn well please as long as it is not violating the natural rights (NOT privileges or luxuries, which is what libs try to make into rights) of others? If you don't like what some1 is doing, that is a less-obvious moral choice YOU can make - to not patronize them, and even to complain about them. But don't lobby for stopping their right to pursue something the way they want. It's socialist rules & regulations (e.g., income taxes, minimum wage, union-only [aka "me me me"], labor restrictions, liscensing of every damn thing, OSHA, insurance, etc) that have more often than not pushed corps, small businesses, and individuals to choices you mite not like to survive.

"I also strongly suspect that candidate Kerry’s solution for our jobs/manufacturing losses will be more of the same programs/philosophies which caused the problems listed above: the continuation of the special interest/union strangleholds, the socialist/anti-capitalist disdain for the profit motive, and the knowledge that government can line its coffers, instill dependence on government, and redistribute wealth, by taxing the makers and producers."

>Bingo< (...here, have a ceegar.) {g}
Beautifully said, Mrs.f.

This scrawny Liberal-Socialist POTUS wannabe Ferry, IF successful, will make damned sure -- from the get-go -- not a single act of his administration will not have *something* attatched that'll effectively reinforce his ideological belief(s), in one way or another.
Not *one*.
The entire weight of our own government will be at his disposal, mobilized, & act on his behalf & to his end.

Just as bubba had so masterfully done in the beginning when he fired each & every fed prosecutor in the entire nation as an instrumental, fundemental, & critical step toward implementing his his social(ist) agenda which would necessitat trampling on the constitution even more than it'd ever been, before.

And *mysteriously* the one thing our present POTUS hasn't really done -- in any meaningful way -- for the conservative cause, out of fear of fill in the blank??
Effectively governing to me means knowing how to handle the power so your beliefs prevail above all others.
Of course -- admittedly -- I'm an oddball to embrace such crazy ideas, too.

"So when the Kerry/Edwards ticket focuses most of its rhetoric on the economy, it will be in order to play on the guaranteed ignorance of the voting public."

Yea, well today's ilk of flimflam artists used to have to work some if they expected to pull any *part* of their bullshit shenanagans; but, not anymore, joanie.

"Because any American who isn’t aware that it has been the democrats' (same old, same old) policies that got us into this mess to begin with will no doubt fall for their empty promises yet again."

*Any* American?
Should be a *landslide* this year, young Lady.
Only question is, will the landslide move up or downhill?
~eh?
Can't really say, can ya?
Well, neither can I.

"And we’ll dig ourselves even deeper into the economic/national security hole. (What was it that we used to say as children? If we dug deep enough, we’d eventually reach China?"

HA!!
In such rare form.
So true, to boot.

"...Were we prophetic or what?)"

Not a'tall prophetic, we were just rying to make a point by being silly.
So how'd we know?

...landslides could go uphill? ;^)

Last night, I heard John Stossel say that govt spending now accounts for over 40 % percent of GDP. He said that up to the 60's, Govt spending only accounted for about 5% of the GDP. This could be a major cause of outsourcing, along with increased regulations by the alphabet soup gang. (EPA, OSHA, etc.)

Stossel ( a Libertarian) is now being excoriated by libs, after he starting exposing the excesses of government. Libs loved him when he went after business, but now, he is the scourge of the earth. They are really ripping him for his new book that has just come out.

Last night on Hannity and Colmes, John Stossel called the left what it is; he told Colmes the left was "Totalitarian".

::sigh:: you missed the point. the money they are getting they are wasting, which means two things. one, they get too much money, and two, they arent being held responsible. a book can be a luxury, so can candy. but cable tv IS a luxury. and the car thing is right out for the simple fact that they also have cable tv. you want me to give them cell phones so they can keep up?

no, the entire thing is that our governement is wasting money on the poor (and the wealthy in some cases)

which leads to what i said earlier about the US having the only fat poor people in the world.

and about books, show me someone on welfare with a decent library and ill think about giving a response.

Do you know the concrete numbers? Do you know who is qualified to get welfare and on what conditions?

and the car thing is right out for the simple fact that they also have cable tv.

I do not understand why this car bothers you so much. Car is a necessity in USA (at least outside of center of large cities).

I you want me to give them cell phones so they can keep up?

Cell phone can be a good economical solution to keep up and for emergencies. Why not? How much money do you expect to be saved by reducing their benefits to the point that they would not be able to keep car, phone and TV? Can you provide some numbers and estimate?
