How do they get that much dirt into a Hollywood film studio?

Re: Why does the picture of Mars from the rover look round?

Because they are from the HASCAM (Hazard Camera) under the solar panels. 2 small black and CCD cameras in the front and 2 small ones in the back. They have a "fish eye" lens so that they can cover as large a field of view as possible. Their primary function is to find and avoid obstacles during autonomous navigation.

When it looks forward with the 2 front HAZCAMS the software uses both images to get a range to target.

There are 2 more sets of eyes up on the mast, PANCAM (Black & White), NAVCAM (multi wavelength filters). Both of these have a normal lense that generate an image much like we would see.

A color pic would be better.

Can we make the robor arm write "Osama is next" in the sand ?

It's probably the same material exposed on the crater sides... but it would be neat if they did find H2O so close at hand!

The trench is intriguing, however, I have a question......

....has anyone at NASA speculated or addressed the spherical objects being found by Opportunity all over the place in any detail????????

Not only is the White Stuff in the trench, it's colored the right wheel as well.

Judging from the tracks - yes. ... Mars has a very interesting surface here - firm enough to rove, soft enough to break - this is way cool and I have no problem with my tax dollars going to the effort.

Look at the tracks. Every few feet there is a hashmark. What are those?

Cool.
But the trenches I had to dig during my stay in uniform were somewhat bigger.
*chuckle*
For some reason the pic made me think of "Circle the wagons!"

It is weird that the soil shows characteristics of silt in it's form.

The wheels of the rover have ridges on them for traction.

Do you think maybe it's salt? It's in a powder form, see the color of the right wheel?
