Well, the way Drudge wrote it up was like this:

The nature and details of a claimed two-year relationship, beginning in the Spring of 2001, between a young woman and Kerry is at the center of serious investigations at several media outlets.

After being approached by a top news producer, the woman fled to Africa, where she remains, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal....

...A close friend of the woman first approached a reporter late last year claiming fantastic stories -- stories that now threaten to turn the race for the presidency on its head.

So what it looks like is, this friend of hers went to the media because she knew whatever it is we're trying to find out. Perhaps the media in this case was ABC like this thread says. ABC approached the Polier woman. Now, if we're to believe this thread's article, she gave them an interview. And then apparently fled to Africa.

This thread's article matches up with Drudge's account somewhat about the friend approaching the reporter late last year. This thread says the interview was given before Christmas.

Maybe she was like 'I've told you everything, it's your problem to dig up the proof- I'm out of here!'. And off she went.

If you try to picture it then, she's in Kenya with her boyfriend. If she told a couple of people, somebody was bound to talk and this is where we get this 'nastier than what's being reported' quote.

But still, I wonder what it could've been that was so nasty and so bad that ABC would sit on the details of a bombshell news story waiting to confirm the details. The details would have to be pretty bad it seems like. Kerry must be pretty confident the media are not going to be able to verify the woman's tale.

Plus, Howard Dean is supposedly staying in the race because of this. Someone in his camp must think it's pretty damaging as well.

I wonder who leaked this to Drudge?

Drudge implied last night that his source came from the US news organization that has conducted the interview and is researching the claims further to substantiate them. Drudge did not name them as ABC, because he said he protects his sources, but multiple other articles have named ABC.
