JERUSALEM (Reuters) - The collapse of part of Jerusalem's Western Wall during a rare snowstorm sparked a row between Jewish and Muslim clerics Sunday as one rabbi called it a miracle no worshippers were hurt.

The collapse late Saturday of an 800-year-old embankment next to where Jewish women pray at the site commonly known as the "wailing wall" sent people fleeing from tumbling rocks.

The Muslim authority for the area, the Waqf, blamed Israeli building work nearby for the problem; but an Israeli architect said construction by Arabs was making the wall unstable.

"It's a miracle nobody was hurt," said rabbi Shmuel Rabinovich, blaming time and the weather for the collapse.

Engineers were also looking at whether a small earthquake last week might have played a part in the incident. Israeli police kept people away from the site Sunday.

The head of the Waqf, whose authority includes the Al-Aqsa mosque above the wall, said it had been complaining about Israeli renovations of the Western Wall plaza for some time.

"We've been saying it could cause problems," said Adnan al-Husseini.

Israeli archaeologist Eilat Mazar said it was the fifth time in two years that parts of the walls had begun to crumble, buckle or crack as a result of what she called unsupervised construction by the Waqf -- a charge the Muslim clerics deny.

"What concerns me most is the Temple Mount itself is in danger of collapsing...The earthquake has certainly done more damage but nobody goes to check," she told Reuters.

Jewish women worship separately from men and Rabinovich said partitions would be set up in the men's section to allow women to pray there until their area was made safe after the collapse.

New Yorker Frady Schwartz, praying at the wall Sunday, was unfazed; she said with a shrug: "It's in God's hands."

The third temple, the "tribulation" temple as it were, was rebuilt approximately 1971 years ago.

John 2:20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?

There's no temple on the Temple Mount. The Al Aqsa intifada has been ongoing for what, 41 or so months now?

what may happen is that all the muslim's digging under the mount will cause their mosques to crumble and fall into the earth.

There were cracks in the Mosque caused by the digging before the earthquake. I was hoping it would crumble.

The Rabbis in Jerusalem have been stating it only needs to be nearby...indeed a couple of months ago some Rabinical students attempted to lay a symbolic corner stone on the border of the Moslem control area on the mount, causing a scuffle.

My Bible says the temple would be rebuilt, not necessarily on the exact spot.

The Book of Jonah states that Jonah preached what God told regarding his intention to destroy Nineveh over its corrutption. The people of that city of that time repented and God spared them. Jonah was angry that God should have spared them and God taught Jonah an object lesson REGARDING HIS MERCY. (Jonah was angry that the (shading)gourd was dead and God said to him, you are angry over a gourd, yet prefered the destruction of Nineveh in which there were some 90,000 souls?)

There are true accounts of men who have been swallowed by whales over a period of 24 hours and have lived to tell the tale. Their skin is bleached white. The inscriptions from Nineveh tell of a man who's skin was bleached white, coming from the sea naked, preaching, and filling the city with great consternation. Jonah, I beleive was that man!

The whole point of building the temple on that spot is the location of the rock on which Abraham sacrificed the ram that sealed the covenent with God. I would presume the "rock" is still in the same place......Your Bible? wow i wish i had my own bible. yea, i'd call it "The Bible of GDC"... but it wouldn't be as good as this other one i read called the "holy bible".

That's the point I'm trying to make...the Bible doesn't say one way or the other. Perhaps the real temple ought to be in the spot you mention, and perhaps it will be. But there already is a move a foot to be "flexible" regarding the ultimate spot of the rebuilding, and does it violate scripture if it ultimately ends up 50-100 yards off center?(that is what some of the Rabbinate in Jerusalem are arguing)
The third temple will be rebuilt, no matter where it is placed with all the following events occuring as prophesied. If an earth-quake happens and the temple is re-built over the old Al-Aqusa spot, all the the more power to the prescience of God. Judging from the stated instability of the area, the temple may have to be rebuilt in a more stable area adjacent to the old site. The fact that the temple is rebuilt a third time is true fullfillment of scripture and the setting off of the final chronology of the pre-millenial era, when Satan is defeated and Christ rules upon the Earth. And that is the thing to be looking for, ultimately.


My real point is that there really is nothing to stop the prophetic clock work from happening, even if Al Aqsa remains standing!

The story of Jonah resonates with me in that in it, we see the heart of God(before the Christian era in which the gospels were preached to the Jews....then the gentiles) broken with concern, not just for the Isrealite nation, but for the gentiles as well. The nation Israel was meant to be a light to the world, to draw all men to God and his glory. Jonah was a reluctant missionary, who saw the Ninevites as evil, unworthy of salvation...perhaps he even feared for his saftey. He was emblematic of Israel's ultimate failure under the old covenat to be that light to the world, and of its ultimate punishment.

The "Sign of Jonah" was Christ's stated analog of his own purpose on the earth. Jonah was in the belly of the whale 3 days and nights and "so shall the son of man be in the earth 3 days and nights". Christ rose again to give impetus to the new gospel of Peace as Jonah was "spit up" on dry land to preach "his gospel" of reconciliation to a heathen nation who were NOT GOD'S CHOSEN PEOPLE. Christ considered the "Sign of Jonah" to be the only sign that his "evil" generation diserved. Christ was God in flesh, his death was to set men free from sin and of the fear of death...his resurrection was God's exclamation point in the extension of his love for us...and of the possibilty of everted judgment for those who repent.

Christ said"Oh Jerusalem, you who stoned the prophets, I would have gathered you to me like a Hen who gathers her chicks..." but his generation missed his coming as was forrtold in Daniel...regarding the "Prince who would be cut off". I think he stands at the edge of our world now saying the same thing to the entire race..."I would have gathered you all together to me but you would not hear me...I have given you examples of the blessings that occur when men hear my words, and the curses that occur when nations neglect my ways, and now the times pass and my Father is soon to judge...I would have spared you of all that and would have brought the whole world joyfully before my Father...but you would not listen and have hardened your hearts to the Spirit of Truth." His heart cry was not just for Israel but for the whole world!

Now do you understand why the story of Jonah means so much to me?

i pretty much agree except for the part about the mosque. I can't imagine them moving the alter for sacrifice to the Lord, so as to compensate for a place of worship to a false god. maybe even satan perhaps.

I could imagine them moving it, a few yards here or there. The history of the nation and the Talmud is one of flexibility, to the point that Christ accused the priests, scribes and others of "taking away the keys of knowledge leaving those who listened to them thrice more damned than themselves". Could they find some justification for adjusting the location of the site....you betcha!

The location is really a minor point, the rebuilding of the temple is the major sign post of the final conflict of the ages(not counting that "little conflagration" at the end of the 1000 years when Satan is loosed again for a 'little season'.)
