She is acutely aware of the fact that if her skin was black or brown instead of white, she wouldn't be strapped with thousands of dollars in student loans to pay back after she graduates.

Being a white middle class girl about to graduate from college, I will be strapped thousands of dollars when I get done. The thing that makes me mad is that my roommate and best friend of 4 years is an adopted Korean girl who has grown up with a white family in rural Minnesota. Not any different than me. However, she gets thousands of dollars in scholarships and financial aid because she is Asian- and I am a better student out of the two of us. She has zero interest in the culture or anything. She doesn't even want to go to South Korea (too close to North Korea for her!). Society says we are completely equal but obviously we are not!
