Cuba has tons of consumer goods, but Castro will not allow those goods to be made available to the people.
The problem with all the "drop the embargo" ideas, is that they fail to realize that Castro controls the market, so dropping the so-called embargo does not translate into free commerce with the people of Cuba.
What dropping the embargo will bring about, is an unholy alliance between Castro and US industry.
US industry is always looking for a cheap source of labor, and Castro is well-versed in using the people of Cuba as his own, personal slave force.
You drop the "embargo", you create that situation, you create that situation, you make it possible for Castro, and his successors, to remain in power forever.
