maybe youth looking at colleges should really think about what they want and what kind of faculty their gonna get. If there up for the challenge have at it. If not, find a school thats gonna fit theirs ideas. Having professors that you like is important.

Well the thing is with rising tuition costs (especially in California) more and more people are going to junior colleges first or to state schools to save money and both of these places are also filled with extreme liberal views. It is either go to one of these schools or get no eduation. Many of us do not have a choice. Also in many colleges administrations do not hire very many conservatives. Granted in an interview they cannot ask aboult political affiliation directly, they always find a way. Just purely by asking you what your life is like or by looking at your application witch often somewhere will give a hint to your political affiliation. In almost every school, even within completely conservative areas, the vast majority of the teachers are leftists. Also (even in elementary education) teachers are allowed to use their leftists views in the classroom without fear of any conflict. However a teacher cannot put any conservative views into a classroom. For example my sister is a 4th grade teacher and at her particular school she is not allowed at any holidays to do anything involving religion. Now santa was a saint and at thanksgiving we prayed, easter and halloween and christmas are all completely religious holidays. Also she cannot have anything up or say anything in class about supporting our soldiers. She thought it would be fun for the kids to draw a picture or write a letter and send them to troops and her school told her no. Though I have heard of some schools allowing that. So how can all of that be bad, but then it is okay to tell your students to go to a protest against our own country? It is all so crazy.

There is actually a college guide to that effect: Choosing the Right College: The Whole Truth About Americas Top Schools (2004 National Review Edition)
I used another book by William F. Buckley, Jr., when I was going through the application process. I can't remember the exact title, and I no longer have my copy, but it's a book about finding conservative universities, published by National Review.
Unfortunately I didn't follow the advice in the book, and chose another college. I went through the same troubles with liberal professors when I was in college. Several of us got tired of keeping quiet, and organized the Bucknell Conservatives Club. The club continues to publish a newspaper, the counterweight. Check it all out at www.bucknellconservatives.org.
I am presently in law school at a Jesuit university, and I still encounter heavy bias, though not as bad as at Bucknell. One of my professors said something like, "....won't happen until the presidency of Dr. Dean" (clearly, this was several weeks ago). Anyway, kids, keep your head held high and fight the good fight ..... unless you want to get As, in which case, keep you head down and tell them what they want to hear.
Not to be a pain in the %&=, but there is one more thing I'd like to point out. This essay contains many important points, but it is also full of grammatical errors and organizational problems. In order to make a poweful argument, we must always show that we are more intelligent, or at least more prepared and thorough, than our adversary.

Though I am lucky and just chose not to take advantage of going to any college I want. Many students can only go where their parents can afford to send them and often times that is to a local junior college or state school.

I actually think what you speak of is worse right now then before with the new media getting extensive ratings. The left just like the DNC is emploding and good people like yourself still are being forced to play the game. Take a look around at all the conservatives in the media today and you can see the change is coming. Slow but coming. I was a poli sci major and while it was bad as Reagan and Bush 1 were in White House I never got any similar assignments as you described.
GOOD LUCK!!

I agree that profs should not foist their political opinions on students. However conservative students can search all they want, but the fact is most liberal arts profs are flaming libs. Most of my lib profs kept their political opinions to themselves, but there were those who didn't. Unless there is a groundswell of conservatives taking liberal arts majors, unfortunately liberal arts will be almost exclusively taught by libs. For now, conservative students will just have to adapt. I did and survived. I will agree that conservative students should not be persecuted for their beliefs. Lib profs who do that should be penalized or fired.
