Notice there is no connection between jobs we won't FILL, AND PAY!Actually, there was. The jobs will now be covered under our labor laws.
That means wage, hour and IRS involvement.
If that happens, how many more jobs do you think will result? How many of those currently employing illegals will still be in business?
I think far fewer and all will be legitamate.

Some say the jobs will now be covered under our labor laws.
Hey all the jobs in this country right now , this very minute - are supposed to be covered under our labor laws. If we can't enforce them now, how is adding more regulations, and 12 million more people to follow around, ( Not to mention a border purposely kept undefended by our President during a time of War) going to help?

Don't be ridiculous. Just because a guy has illegal immigrant employees, he's not covered by the labor or tax laws? There's no exemption for that situation---and the Labor Board and IRS will "get involved" when they damn well please, just like they do with legit employees.
What amazes me about you defenders of the Bush proposal is your naive (?) faith that yet another law purporting to regulate employers' hiring of immigrants THIS time is going to work....when all it's meant to do is take the heat off scofflaw employers for employing illegals, and off politicians for not doing a damn thing about the scofflaw employers hiring illegals. Oh, yeah: and legalize all the millions here illegally, and bring in millions and millions more, "legally."
I want some of what you're smokin', guy.

LOL - Have you ever read our labor laws? I have. There are so many exemptions, the only thing they actually cover is workers under either 6 or 9 years old, and ski lift operators at one federal ski lift in Whyoming.
(I am not joking - I tried to sue a few years ago and researched the laws).
Now, if you are sex or color or handicapped or etc.... they can be sued, but not for labor laws.
